Different Alert Sound for Wyze Notifications

Hi @jlhumbert, I’m using Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 as well. This app might be worth fiddling with. It allows for customizing notification sounds per app (I’ve been using it mainly for its LED control with no problem for several months.)

I just tested its alternate sound function for Wyze and it works on my Nexus 7 rig.

(Note: The link below is specifically for Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. There’s another version of the app for later OS versions.)

Thanks PeePeep, I will check it out. I can’t believe Wyze still hasn’t implemented the ability to change the notification sound in the app. It seems like basic functionality – especially since so many users are using the devices for security – and it seems like it would be an easy addition.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t work in Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. “WyzeNormal” is not available in the Notification settings. Still no way to change the notification sound in Android 6.0.1.

Very true, it isn’t available in all versions of Android, unfortunately. I was hoping it was available to you.

I have other cameras and I can change the notification sounds. This would be nice.

When enabling notifications, I would like to be able to set the notification sound. As it is currently, all of the notifications use the default notification sound set for the device. If I could use a chosen, unique sound then I could choose to prioritize viewing the event.

Bonus points for setting a default sound for the app and unique sounds per camera.

It would be nice to be able to select a different notification tone for each camera or sensor event

There is a round about way of “changing” the Wyze cam notification.

Step 1: Setup a default notification alert sound in the default settings area of your phone or tablet. (Something special for WYZE App)

Step 2: Then Default Messaging app that comes on your phone, you may have to set it as Default messaging service for a minute while you apply this tweak. But you can set it to a custom sound as well. Then change Facebook Messenger back to default messaging service. (This is done thru the app itself not in main settings)

Step 3: Assuming you use Facebook Messenger. Go into FM and set a custom notification.(This is done thru the app itself not in main settings)

Assuming all goes like it has for me. You should now have a Unique sound for FM and the Default Messanger. And a fairly unique sound for other Alerts. This helps cut down on the sound clutter and you can know when you HAVE to check that alert.

I am surprised that a unique alert tone was not an app requirement from day one.

For the user, of course someone with a camera configured to sent alerts to their mobile phone wants and needs to immediately distinguish those alerts from others.

For the company: the push notification tone obviously won’t affect a customer’s purchase decision. However, it could negatively affect perception of the product and company after the fact. Using the default alert tone makes the app feel more cheap and underdeveloped than it needs to.

Nothing special is needed, just some alert sound that’s different from any other app. Maybe a few variations (such as in pitch) configurable for which device is creating the alert.

There is also an opportunity to make the sounds a part of Wyze’s branding, the same as typeface and color and other trade dress is a part of a company’s branding.

@jonathanchsd - Well stated. I wholeheartedly agree.

We should simply be able to select any notification sound that we want (just like many other apps).

I agree with you, however what you describe is a function of the operating system, not the Wyze app itself. Android users may be able to do this according to posts earlier in this thread, but iOS users are stuck with the default alert sound. iOS only allows user-selected alert sounds for a handful of built-in apps. Otherwise, it’s up to the app developer.

I am running Android 7.1 and found a very useful APP on Google Play named NotifiCon
This allows me full control on ANY App to add custom notification sounds.

In my case, I have the NotifiCon App say the following as my notification: " New Notification from WYZE". It is in a female voice and very different from any of my other notifications.

Hope this helps!!!

I would like this feature too! An alarm sound would be nice.

@geek46 - I have tried using NotifiCon app. on my mobile, and for some reason it is not working properly. It will allow me to select & set a new notification sound – once a new Wyze notification/alert comes through, it is still my fones default sound.

I am running Android 9.0 on a Pixel 3xl…
Any suggestions or recommendations you may have would be truly appreciated.

BTW, thank you for sharing your experience with NotifiCon. (:

If you are running Android version 9 you do not need that app .
Go to settings > notifications > wyze > wyze normal > then sound , And select what sound you want .

FYI You can do this on Android version 8 And version 9 But not on version 7 or lower

Thank you kindly for your invaluable help. It is greatly appreciated. I cannot begin to tell you how much much I appreciate you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It works like an absolute dream.

Cheers,
Lisa :v::blush:

As pointed out, the sound is easily changed (on Androids at least), however only one sound can be set. Now with the addition of Wise Sense, it would be valuable to have a different sound for sensors vs cameras. For example, sometimes if I am busy I may not check a camera alert right away because it may be a false alert, but if I receive a sensor alert that someone opened my door, I will drop everything to check that immediately.
