Just set up these two outdoor cams which I’m evaluating before going all in on the ecosystem, and so far everything from initial setup to configuration was smooth and the app seems to be pretty mature and polished. There is one feature however that from what I can tell does not work as advertised, so looking for some feedback on my setup here. Set up detection zones on both cams and I have been barraged with motion alerts from events that are well outside of the configured zone (the street in this case). I have disabled motion tagging because there was a mention in the setup article that when it was enabled it would trigger an alert regardless of detection zone. Only allowed to attach a single attachment as a new user, so here is one of the detection zones which is constantly triggered by cars passing on the street, well outside of the defined zone.
Welcome to the Forum, @gduck! ![]()
I’m curious about something in your initial post:
What’s the source for this? My understanding of the Motion Tagging setting (in Settings ➜ Detection Settings) is that when enabled it should draw a green box around the area of the camera’s view that’s triggering a detection event and that Motion Tagging by itself should not trigger event detections or notifications. In fact, enabling Motion Tagging can be useful for troubleshooting Detection Zone settings, because it can help to indicate where a detection might be occurring at or near a zone border.
If you could provide a link for the source here, then that could help us figure out if we need to ask Wyze to review or correct an article.
In the meantime, I’d be inclined to enable Motion Tagging and then upload an image that shows a detection event (with the green box) when you didn’t expect to see one (because you thought the Detection Zone would screen that out).
Yeah, since you’re a new user (we start at Trust Level 0 [TL0]), the Forum limits you to one image per post. You can get to TL1 and be able to include more images by visiting/reading a few more topics and posts and spending a few more minutes in the community, and poking around like that might also answer some questions for you.
Thanks for including the images you’ve shared so far! ![]()
Until we have a chance to see what’s going on with Motion Tagging, I wonder how you have detection sensitivity set, and I also wonder if it’s possible that the window to the left of the door is reflecting activity from the street (which you’ve excluded with your Detection Zone) and if that’s causing enough pixel change to trigger a motion detection event. If you could share some details about those settings, then that might be helpful, too.
Are you using any kind of subscription or just trying to detect generic pixel-change-based motion on a free plan? I’m not trying to push you in either direction. I just want to have a better understanding of your operating conditions.
