Continuous recording (several questions)

The timeline should be completely filled if you have continuous recording selected. Interruptions to power or having Events Only recording selected will create gaps. Otherwise there may be an issue. Could be with the camera, SD card, or firmware. Not aware of any firmware issues on any of the cameras ATM.

It definitely has Continuous Recording selected. I noticed that sometimes, I have to restart the camera (from the Wyze app) to make it record continuously. For the most part, it did record a lot of stuff, but there were a few tiny gaps in between random hours.

I’m using a pretty decent Samsung 32GB U10 microSD card. Firmware is fully up to date and I’m using cam v3.

To test, try a new SD card or camera. What version of firmware are you using?

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure you have it set to continuous recording? The reason I ask is that Continuous vs Events only setting is somewhat ambiguous in the app (all part of the Wyze horrible color scheme). The selection should be white, not grey.
The other reason I ask is because what you describe is exactly what you get when set to Events only.

Here is the setting for continuous recording on one of my V3 cameras,

Do these gaps correspond to when the camera was restarted? Or when the camera was power cycled? If the camera is in fact set to continuous the only few reasons that will cause breaks in the coverage is the camera restarting, bad SD card, power cycled. Post screenshots of what you see on your menus and timeline, maybe fresh eyes on it will see something a miss.

I am a new wyze user.
I have 5 v3 cams, and am considering making one of these continuous recording.
All my cameras have the 32g microsd cards.
I also have Cam Plus for all my cams
One question I have, if one camera is set to continuous, will I still get “event notification” on that camera?

Any other limitations that I need to be aware of?
I do know that I’ll probably only get 3 days or so of recording.

Mike

Yes, you should get Notifications with the SD card on Continuous. I have some v3 cameras on Cam Plus and some on Cam Plus Lite and they all give Notifications of AI Events under what each plan allows.

I do like all cameras to record Continuous just in case the cloud Events miss something. Over the past year there have only been a couple of times I needed to save videos. Downloading Event videos from the cloud worked for me, so I have never needed to try to grab video from the SD card.

Regardless of your SD card size, Wyze saves cloud videos for 14 days.

Local storage (SD card) and cloud storage (event tab, camplus and cam plus lite, notifications) are two seperate and independent functions. You can have one, both or neither at anytime your SD card settings have no effect on notifications.

OK so I have been running continuous recording for several months and it seems to work just fine for both “events” and cloud storage.
So one follow up question:
This has to do with network bandwidth, I am assuming that continuous recording does not use “network Band width”?
I am always worried about my very bad DSL internet connection.

Can anyone confirm?
TIA Mike

If you purchase a Cam Plus (cloud hosting) plan, you will automatically use network bandwidth to upload video, however, only EVENT VIDEO will be uploaded when a recording event is triggered. This does not include 24/7 continuous recording footage. You will definitely require a MicroSD card to capture 24/7 non-eventful footage for later review, subscription or not.

Marketing material specifies:

Scroll through video recordings of Events you missed and watch them all with a tap. Recordings are saved for 14 days in the cloud and easily viewable at any time.

If you want to ensure that footage exists when the bad guys destroy your cameras and steal your SD cards, then you will need to purchase a subscription so those events get uploaded as they occur.
