Yup. I used to stay busy with my chickens, and making stuff. Now I’m in Calif with my almost 97 yr old mother, thinking of what I’ll do next, as I sit here knitting fingerless gloves for my sister. Next will be documenting ancestors photos. Lots of relaxing days, though. At least I’m not shoveling snow.
Yeah, not a big fan myself either. I have a snowblower and didn’t use it at all last winter and none so far. Not enough snow to make it worth starting it up.
I love mine, too. Been working there since 2001, though moved into what I’m currently doing back in 04… And still over 25 years to go before I could even think about retiring.
Yes. In South Florida cold is a relative term. We made it down to 50°F as a low over the last couple weeks, during the evenings. Last snow was only seen in the sidewalk cracks in 1977 for about 15 minutes.
Today it is 86°F. North Florida does get snow, but we are fairly warm down here. Locals can be seen wearing jackets when it’s under 60°F.
I attended the 1989 inauguation of George Bush Sr. outside on the mall. It was 15°F. That was cold for me.
I retired @ 46, 18 years ago and wish I had retired at 40. Work is a means to an end, not a life to live.
I get asked frequently to “come onboard” with projects, but I just honestly could not be bothered at any salary.
Three friends said they loved their job and would work to 70. One died at 65. Others still going strong. Definitely a personal decision. Definitely save all you can and invest wisely.
I’m in public service, so I get a feeling of pride knowing that I’m helping others. The pay isn’t great (I’d make more in the private sector), but the benefits aren’t terrible. I get a lot of vacation time since I’ve got so many years in, and I use it well (we road tripped route 66 for our honeymoon, and plan to do it again in 2026 over 15 or 16 days), and usually take 3 week long vacations and a few extended weekends every year.
I’d like to get to a place where my husband can retire early, since he does a much more physical job, but I definitely know that at least for now, I cannot imagine retiring. I just don’t think I’d get the mental stimuli I need to feel happy.
I have a great work life balance, from my perspective. I’m definitely a work hard play harder kinda person. We travel, relax, and have a lot of fun. Maybe I’ll change my mind, maybe I won’t, but for now I’m a happy camper.
