One thing that might have been overlooked is how tight the screw that attaches the camera assembly to the base is. It it’s loose, the momentum of the camera panning could possibly move the waypoints. Finger tightening it is probably not enough.
The only time I used pan/scan and track motion at the same time was when I first set them up over a year ago. At the time, it was just too much and got confusing to watch, and I decided that having the camera centered with only track motion enabled worked well for my needs, and indeed it has. Maybe new firmware has caused an issue with having both enabled, or maybe something to do with the way yours is positioned is causing it to get confused. If both features work fine by themselves, I suspect it probably isn’t any sort of hardware issue, but who knows.
If pan/scan doesn’t work by itself that leads me to believe it is something in the camera. Would be odd for that to have issues but not track motion, but maybe since pan/scan is constantly moving and track is less frequent, it just presents quicker. In that case probably having the camera replaced (1 year warranty, I’m guessing you’re still in that window) is probably a sensible next step.
Yeah mine do not click at all. I do have one that got water (and probably some dirt) in it from being mounted upside down, and it does click a tiny bit in one direction, but doesn’t seem to impact it. That one isn’t used much, now in a drawer as a spare for when I travel (to watch the inside of my house, where I don’t normally have cams). When I pull it out every now and then to update the firmware or test something, even with the clicking it seems to track just fine. Obviously it is indicative that something isn’t right but if OPs cams are off by the huge amount they’re describing, I’d think there would be a very loud or lots of clicking/grinding. But who knows, if a gear is spinning on the shaft, it could be totally silent too.
If you’re using pan/scan and track motion at the same time on the latest firmware, then we know the two can work together, so I’m suspecting some sort of hardware issue in this case.
Yeah even with just track motion on, mine will tend to track into the white walls at night when the IR lights are on. I wish there was a way to set limits for how far it tracks, but it isn’t a huge issue (bugs are much more of an issue when it comes to IR lights).
Yup. Me, too.
The Track Motion vs. Pan Scan cage match wasn’t very useful to me, so I set my Waypoints and declared Track Motion the winner by TKO.
Albeit a bit creepy for people that don’t know it is automatic (actually even when you know it still kinda is).
Yeah, sometimes if I happen to be where one of the Cam Pan v3s is and it starts tracking something, the hum kind of sounds like someone set a phone down somewhere and it’s vibrating.
I have one mounted on my garage and was doing a project over a few days where I was walking in and out right near it, and wondering WTF that humming noise was. Finally had that head smack moment.
When I first put them in my neighbor across the street (who I’m good friends with) sent me a video of a rather attractive young lady walking down the sidewalk and the camera following her. They were like ohhh, now I see why you got them.
I wonder if it’s the same neighbor who said…
Actually no, that one isn’t quite as familiar with my reputation as a dirty old man.
Well she probably is, it’s kinda obvious.
That comment spawned from a video I sent our neighborhood facebook group of a group of 5 deer walking up our street at night, which made them all pissed at how much they paid for their Ring and Blink cams that pretty much showed a couple blocky white blobs for a few seconds.
that was insightful. Ill isten to the camera itself and see if there is any noise. non that i can remember. i will also look into the sensitivity as well.
last night they moved again. so its just either the camera, or the setting of both track and pan being on together. only when the room has a drastic light change. so maybe the sensitivity is too high, i have it at 35.
worse case scenario, i can have it pan when we leave the house, and at night just have it set to just track, no pan on. that way i hope it eliminates any further issues.
Also, to @Crease or @dave27, what is the correct method of this being mounted? mine is currently mounted as shown below in the house… i believe this is the correct orientation according to Wyze. not sure if this has anything to do with it.
i got a few more things to try out. but i think i am getting the hang of it. Now i have to go and find some reviews and posts about the floodlight pro, as that is next on the list to buy after i check the wifi signal at the De-attached garage we have
I didn’t realize you had it mounted upside down. Now when you say that you find it pointing up in Privacy Mode, that makes more sense.
If yours is mounted similar to the picture you included from the mounting guide, then that looks correct to me. I’ve just used mine in an upright (base on the bottom) orientation.
yeah, that is is the exact same way mine is mounted right now.
I was wondering if changing it being mounted with the camera mounted standing up, if that would make any changes. i mounted the unit upside down so i could get a better picture beneath the camera.
Same here. My outside unit is upside down for a better view. 2 inside units mounted base on the bottom. I personally don’t think it makes a difference. Been that way for 8 or 9 months.
I wouldn’t expect mounting it base-down to resolve this. As long as it’s vertical and you’re not doing something goofy like a horizontal mount, I would expect the camera to function as designed. I agree with @ronl4625. You should be good to go.
Maybe your particular camera is just shy or modest and that’s why it keeps going to Privacy Mode. AI is finally catching up with us, and it’s beginning with your camera!
thanks you for the reply. i have one more cam pan i bought after this one was gifted to us. so i will test that out also and see if they both suffer the same issues.
or it had enough of keeping an eye on two dogs who are always tearing up their beds lol
On the lighter side - - we just reseeded our back yard. It’s at that early stage when you can’t walk on it.
Of course the dog has decided it likes to eat the new grass. I get a notification when she goes to the back yard. The pan scan tracks her at which time I turn on the camera mic and yell “treat”.
She comes right back in.
Never envisioned that instead of catching bad guys we would be catching mischievous dogs.
haha, this is why i want the floodlight now. so i can keep track of the one mischievous dog and tell her to stop haha. thats a good idea. the other pan cam is going in the front of the house.
That’s when you got the notification on your phone that said, “I can’t take this anymore. I’m out!” right?
That’s cool that that’s working for you.
In the informal comparisons I’ve done between my Cam Pan v3s and Cam v4s, the Cam v4 audio is the clear winner. It’s not even a contest. Hopefully Wyze will carry that forward in the next Cam Pan version.
im sure the camera is on its way to send me that notification haha.
