Cam Outdoors won't recognize SD card

I did see the solution with the EASEUS Partition Manager 3rd party software out there while looking. Personally, I didn’t want to install anything 3 rd party unless I absolutely have to since those 3rd free software might come with ads and other things that I wouldn’t want. Just so happened I have access to a mac and the mac disk utility was very straight forward to just format with “MS-DOS” option which will format the card to FAT32. As far as the 32GB limit, I wasn’t sure what that was about? Since I was able to reformat the 128GB Sandisk sd cards after it reconglized the cards and use that for event recording .

Just speculation here: FAT32 limits files to 4g maximum. Is Wyze preserving the efficiency of Playback? Our continuous recording is automatically broken up into small clips, just like every dash cam I have looked into does. The software stitches them together for playback, unless one were to open the disk they would not see the individual files.

I will assume that the WCO software does the same thing. Otherwise it would require more resources, plus take a long time, to playback anything other than short clips.

Well, you said you couldn’t get the base Windows to let you format to anything else that what it want you to, so that is the reason for 3rd party tools. At least with EASEUS you get a supported product (I have the full paid-for version to unlock additional features). I know nothing about the other program mentioned here.

Well, I am back to saying the SD Card mechanism (or the WOC itself) is defective. After getting it to correctly recognize the SD Card, I mounted it outside where there is lots of activity going on to see how it performs. I didn’t pay much attention to it for a while - until now. I connected to it to check the recordings and it said it didn’t have any. I had set the sensitivity to 80% and walked past it many, many times.

When I checked it (via app) for an SD card, it said there wasn’t one - which is strange since it has been mounted outdoors for a few weeks without interference.

So I bought it inside to reseat the SD card (which I know is in there). I took it out and mounted it in my desktop and low-and-behold, I can see tons of motion recordings - even up to when I removed the WOC from its mount and ejected the SD card?

So what gives? I have never had this kind of problems with ANY of my other WYZE cameras. All have 64GB-128GB cards that work flawlessly. On one camera, I went back 2+ weeks in recordings with no issues!

I am having the same exact issue. WCO either says there is no SD card or it just say 0.00gb / 32gb. I don’t get it!!!

I am 100% sure this WOC is defective and will pursue getting a replacement. To remove the “32GB Card is maximum size per WYZE” issue, I needlessly ordered 2-32GB MicroSD cards. I put one (virginal - right out of the package) in the WOC and the BASE. The base immediately recognized it and I formatted it. The WOC, while recognizing it and allowing me to format it, still continues to not recognize there is some place to record motion. Another factor on why I think the WOC is defective is the battery usage. After fully charging it, I notice the battery level went from 100% to 50% very quickly (2-3 days of days?). Once it reached 50%, the usage/battery level has dropped very little (now at 44% after more that a week). IIRC, there was something about there being 2-small batteries in the WOC?

I formatted (FAT32) my 64gb card using the mac’s disk utility program off of the launchpad. Card now recognized on the WOC. Thanks for the tip to reformat the card. Took 1 minute. Thanks a lot Seapup. ``

save yourself the headache and just return them if you still can. thank me later. get some eufy 2k cams instead

I had the same issue. Base Station would not even recognize there was an SD card inserted. I have a 256GB card and tried formatting a million different ways with the same result. Here is what worked for me. Inserted 256GB card into WyzeCam v2 (firmware 4.28.4.40). the camera recognized the card right away. Go to advanced settings > Local storage and click on Format. Once the card is formatted it worked perfectly on the base station.

sorry but you don’t know what you are talking about… I have eight other wyze cameras that all use 64, 128, or 256gb microSD cards, none of which required intervention in order to get them to work.

My 16 and 32gb cards (multiple from different brands including sandisk and samsung) all required formatting using this specific program on a PC in order to work with the outdoor cam. If you had actually read the whole thread, you would see this is an issue explicitly happening with the new outdoor cams; not other wyze cameras.

I had problems with my Wyze Cam Outdoor recognizing a fresh 128G Micro SD card… Put my 128G Micro SD card in a Cam V2, formatted it and popped it back in the WCO and it worked like a charm… formatted a second 128G micro SD card in my Cam V2 and popped it in the base station… Good to go. Also, I’ve been running 128G micro SD cards in my Cam V2’s for years with no issues. Make sure you get a Class 10 Micro SD card or better…

Time for Class Action Law Suite :disappointed:

seriously? take a deep breath bro… Wyze has been delivering unreal value and solid product for sometime now. This is clearly not their best offering but I think most of it can be fixed with software updates. Give them some more time to figure it out.

You must be new to this WYZE game, I have been waiting on solid firmware and features since V1 CAM.

It took ~ 2 years for WYZE to get mSD formatting working.

My V1, 2 V2’s, and 4 Pans still think corners in my home are people.

All the issues with security hardware being bricked if the batteries go low/dead.

Stay around a little longer and you might see the light.

Remember, you get what you pay for.

I also had the battery drain problem and Wyze replaced it for me. Right now I have a 32GB card in the camera and base, but the camera regularly says there is no card installed. Pop it out and reinsert it will bring it back. Same card in both.

Interesting, I have been posting that my WCO battery lasts about a month. I have never heard about Wyze offering a replacement until this thread.

Thank you for the suggestion of formatting on Mac OS. I had no idea about the 32gb requirement so I got a 256gb microsd card. Popped it in, didn’t recognize. Used the format button. 4 times. It would recognize the card for a split second and then it said no SD card detected. I formatted it on my Mac - had to run several times. Now it’s fine, formatted it to MS-DOS.

Having this issue now with a WCO. Still workiing it, but why are you all saying that Windows will not format fat32? On a current Windiows 10 PC at least, Fat32 is the default option…

FAT32 is the Windows default for 32GB or less. For cards greater than 32GB, the only format available using the built-in Windows formatter is exFAT.
