Bulb camera

We just bought bulb cam and a new light fitting with 3 bulbs but the camera seems only be on when the lights are on. We thought it would take power when the lights are off so have we bought the wrong device ? Also the camera light isn’t operating so something is wrong

How would the cam work without power?

You need to leave power to the fixture on 24x7 and control the light with the app or set it to a schedule.

The light is turned on and off in the app, not using the switch (since the switch needs to remain on).

You (or an electrician) could potentially wire the fixture so 2 sockets are controlled by the physical switch and 1 is always on, but that may require changing/running new wiring. The light on the cam would still be controlled from the app, not via the switch though, only the other two sockets would be controlled by the switch.

What additional detail can you share about this?

Is that a fixture that accepts 3 standard bulbs, or does this mean you have a new fixture and also bought Accessory Bulbs to pair with Bulb Cam or something else entirely? Any detail (or photo) you could share about the fixture where you intend to install Bulb Cam might be helpful.

As @dave27 noted, the circuit for socket where you install Bulb Cam requires constant power for the camera to function. The Bulb Cam’s light (and any paired Accessory Bulbs) is then controlled through the app via schedules, motion events, Automations, or manual activation.

That might depend upon what you’re trying to achieve. What’s your goal or use case?
