Here we are, August 13th, and things are STILL NOT SETTLED with the app! These last many days, my cameras and notifications work like a charm about 70% of the time. Heaven-forbid that it’s anything important and 70% DOES NOT cut it! I’m really rooting for Wyze to have success overall, including all their new products, but I was jolted back into outrage again just now with an emailed promotion of the deadbolt. Why would I ever want that, even for free, if I can’t trust Wyze’s development and maintenance of reliable software? Oh yeah, put a WiFi deadbolt on my precious premises - maybe even share it once with a contractor - and then the unthinkable software glitch occurs? It doesn’t take 30% unreliability to cause a disaster when it involves entry to your house. My two many-weeks-old ticket numbers are orphans. No more of the unbelievable customer service of 21 months ago, when I bought my first cameras; but the NERVE to promote another product while I’m still waiting for reliability of the first is what really got my motor going again. Good luck to Wyze and its users.
Eternally optimistic; few good options.
Same here. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t. Notifications are 80/20. Auto turn off of a lightbulb triggered by a Wyze motion sensor almost NEVER works.
I have bought so many wyze cameras, bulbs, switches, the band, the scale, motion and contact sensors. The scale is fine. The unreleiability of the app is infuriating. Watching a video on the sd card is an exercise in patience as the stream hangs all the time. Then you close the cam, try again. Or kill the app, try again.
Yes, wyze used to be awesome. Used to have awesome service, used to be responsive, no more. Time to move on.
Hmm i have 5 V2’s and one Outdoor cam. I am overly pleased with the outdoor cam and i am more than satisfied with the V2’s. Because of how the V2’s detect motion I completely understand all the false positives on motion checks on the cameras I have outside. The ones inside almost never have a false positive. Wyze clearly states that their indoor cameras are not meant for use outdoors. They also give clear warnings on what types of things can result in false positives. Over all i am very pleased with wyze and will continue to buy their products. Currently have 5 v2’s 1 outdoor cam 2 outlets 4 motion sensors 6 touch sensors 10 bulbs 2 locks and 2 keypads.
I just read through most of the Betrayed by WYZE thread. I have a 40 year back ground in GOV secure networks. After reading all of the above and building my own Lightning Detector from a WYAZ cam and plug to shut down my PC, I found out several things proper people might consider. I also Have Nest, Yi, Yilol, and Momentum systems. (1) my bridge does not like being plugged into the same outlet the Plug is on (TEMPEST problem?) became almost dead. moved the plug to another breaker and problem solved. (2) I have become suspicious that overloading your subnet with so much streaming of videos in and out may be part of the problem, but without an 802.xx.xx data scope I can’t prove this. WYZE might want to consider some research in this area (3) The Some cameras (Yi in particular) show the data rate in the corner of the screen, this seems to reflect my load at times. (4) WiFi/Ether net conflicts on the above mentioned subnet may not be being handled well (again WYZE needs to put a data scope on for testing).

I have recently started limiting a couple of my cameras’ Event Recording so they aren’t uploading clips 24/7. If you get 10-12 cameras uploading 12 sec. clips 24/7 it does add up. If you do need 24/7 coverage it’s not that much of a burden.
The two cameras I limited are on a very slow network connection.
Quick update… it has been over a week and “person detection” notifications are still working, sending them to my phone as expected. There have been power interruptions during that time (storms), the cameras auto reconnect and PD still works.
Now August 21st, and worse than ever! Wyze suggested deleting my app and reinstalling it - so I went from about 70% performance to getting dozens AND DOZENS of “Motion detection” events. To see a “Person” detection, I have to scroll through (see above) to find it. Now, in addition, the speed of the video is about twice normal (like in the 1920’s movies). Wyze has changed from a worthwhile utility to a frustrating career, hoping Wyze can get out of this quicksand and trade greed for the old satisfaction they once offered.
You just have to tap Person to filter out the other motion events.
I’ve noticed some of my recent clips playing about 1.5x faster than normal lately.
“Tapping Person” to "filter out the other motion events, sounds like a wonderful (though second choice) solution. I’ve just tried that, and it didn’t work - so either I’m not tapping the Person icon you’re referring to, or you’ve got a different “plan” from what I have. Maybe if you’ve let them suck you into subscribing to Cam Plus (no offense meant, but when I once updated my app at their suggestion, more problems began, and I had to “cancel”, for which I’ve had more punishment). If you’d be so kind as to direct me to the Person icon to tap, I’d try anything at this point, and of course, be grateful.
Some playing faster and some slower on my side.
Person detection filter(iOS)
Whether you see the “Person” filter or not may be due to when the account was created.
My recent experience has been that you see the “Person” filter checkbox only on Android devices, or on iOS devices with accounts created before Nov 2019.
On iOS devices I have seen with “new” accounts, there is an evil “PLUS” box there which takes you to an advert to sign up for Plus. You cannot filter for Person Detection events at all on these devices with a recently created account.
But @jcw764 's account was created in 2018, so this should not be an issue??
Holy crap can they make this simple feature even MORE confusing? Apparently so. The simple filter option was one of the few things I thought was working well universally, even though I think they moved its location in later versions. Crazy. I thought if there were no person detection enabled then the filter didn’t appear.
Apparently rather easily… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onhFH7jpq2c
I have not installed the absolute latest versions for this very reason. There’s no telling what will change next!
Another Wyze mystery🤔
« Didn’t work », he will probably give us more info. Before CamPlus, and during the time that the detection person was working, I always had the option of filtering it. As you said, he has his account before november 2019.
On the bright side @sodcam’s Vader link sent me down a brief YouTube rabbit hole where I found a Back to the Future video of trivia I had somehow not yet learned. Mr. Peabody easter egg for example, and explicit Harold Lloyd clock in the intro…
I own every Wyze product including 8 cameras and have supported since the kick start. Also sold the idea to many family and friends. Person detection, and even motion detection has not worked reliably since the beginning. Definitely not to the quality of an acceptable security system. I wrote them off as viewing cameras with an occasional recording bonus.
In the end, they are not living up to what they were sold and advertised as. They will survive because most people will not complain or do anything about it. Just like with everything else in this world.
I personally will no longer support Wyze or purchase their products.
That’s all I use them for… eyes around my house that reliably come up for viewing. I use them to answer simple questions, is the garage door open/closed (just in case I get a false alert from my garage door opener and I’m out of town - happened before), is the gate open/closed, have they picked up the trash, etc… basic stuff, no way related to security.
Methinks I see a consensus forming!
