I updated to v3 of the app and now have had several instances of the battery on my iPhone draining while not using my phone. When I check what is causing the drain it is the Wyze app running in the background. This doesn’t always happen, but does sometimes. It is possibly happening when I stop using the app while live streaming from a single camera, although I haven’t verified that is always the case. Killing the app resolves the issue.
Do you have location tracking rules for any of the devices?
For example, the following devices use location tracking in the background so it can change things depending on when you are home or almost home vs away:
Wyze Lock
Thermostat
Air Purifier
Or location rules
Yes, I use location rules with my Wyze Cameras to turn notifications on and off depending on whether I am away from home or at home.
Geofencing location rules with do tend to use a lot of battery with most apps. This can sometimes be mitigated to a degree with various ways of doing it, though usually at a cost of accuracy. It can be a hard thing to balance.
I don’t know what Wyze has set for their polling frequency and latency and accuracy are.
I started a discussion on this subject a while ago here:
It looks like Google has been making a lot of headway on this issue to limit battery drain from location permissions over the years, but I am not sure how much iOS has done to keep up since I mostly read about the issue on the Android side of things. What I can tell you is that background location use does cause significant battery use in general.
