AWS Outage Impacting Multiple Wyze Services - 12/15/21

Honestly,

Everything I see, over the years regarding “Cloud”

The world is in a MUCH more susceptible place.

Hope there is never a military conflict !

All they have to do, is “Google” Datacenter Locations for all Cloud Companies

And take then aim their bombers on those sites/locations
Would not need to bomb all of them, just a few, and the entire system would be down

It would taken down Mil, Gov, Business, personal, etc

Basically send us back to the stone age,
and will be overrun by the opposing army

the majority of aws datacenter locations aren’t public.

additionally, there are over 150 datacenters in Northern Virginia alone, it would be really hard to take down the whole internet with a few planes.

From what I have seen with ALL cloud providers
They all have times where they have gone down, sometime for a long time.

the “Cloud” is not working as they all advertise it.
And it never has

1 piece of bad code, replicates to all their servers, and takes all sites down
I believe it was Microsoft that had that moment in the last year or so.

But they all have their problems.
I dont put 100% trust in any of them, and never will

How about staying off AWS and host your own servers where you have control, and can react quicker to problems?

Many plugs are offline, led flashing and cannot be controlled manually.
I tried BlueStacks before but my old notebook CPU became very busy and the fan was always on.

Hosting your own stuff:

  1. Doesn’t scale well
  2. Costs a whole lot more
  3. Is not as secure

Remember that Wyze is a company with cheap products.
There is a reason that most companies don’t do their own infrastructure anymore.

It’s called outsourcing. Most companies try it and frequently find it doesn’t work. Initially it is cheaper because the outsourcing companies bid very low and then, when the client has no staff to do the work, start raising prices.

Agree :100:. Wasted a good half hour trying to figure out why nothing works.

I’ve been trying to re-add my thermostat periodically and finally was successful a few minutes ago. Hopefully the rest of you also get sorted soon!

Are you kidding?
You dont realize HOW easy it would be to find ALL of them.

And public or not,
They STILL went down
many times over the years, as have other Cloud Providers

“”" " it would be really hard to take down the whole internet with a few planes. “”“”“”

First off, I said CLOUD servers, NOT the entire Internet

Fly a few planes?

Your so 1970’s

1 EMP bomb ( Electro Magnetic Pulse) bomb
Detonated in the upper atmosphere above the center of the U.S.
Would take down Anything electrical across the entire U.S.

And the U.S. IS worrying about it

You can rent a whole Rack at Hurricane Electric in San Mateo which includes IP addresses and a 1GB line for only $400 month.

A-men

Mail update came hrs afterward :frowning:

I have no idea what you are on about but while I am here I must also add. If Wyze hosted their own stuff we would likely see outages that last a lot longer than this AWS outage today.

Its simple economics; AWS (and other providers) spend all of their time working to make a great platform.

In the long run it is cheaper and has better uptime to use clouds instead of on-prem servers. This is a fact.
Find any company (other than super large like facebook) that manages their own infrastructure. Pretty much none do. Lastly, If Wyze truly did it right they would’ve spread their services across multiple regions. AWS isn’t 100% to blame here.

Hurricane Electric is not what anybody would call a good provider. Their uptime is questionable at best.

I have friends with racks here so I know what it is about.

Latest version of Bluestacks, allows the CPU/Mem/ and GPU usage to be controlled

Android apps, dont need much
I set it to 1 CPU Core, and 2 Gigs of memory per BlueStacks app/session.

Wzye runs fine and with 4 cams, 4 plugs

As of right now all my cams are sentient and do not follow my command. Light switches constantly blinking and not responding. Wyze light bulbs are in blackout mode. The vacuum and lamp are still working so there’s that. Would’ve been nice for an app message to pop up alerting us to widespread outage.

I have 4 devices. 2 plugs and 2 cameras. Both plugs and one camera are unable to connect and say they are offline, but one camera is still online. The ones disconnected still show they are connected to my network, could this be an issue with the current outage?

Be nice to have some kind of wyze update every now and then instead of making wyze owners search the internet for explanations on why the wyze systems aren’t working My simplisafe system never had a problem today.
