App in need of serious redesign - Yes or No?

Well I started this thread on April 29 - So where is the NEW design? Typical Wyze all talk ZERO real action.

That is a good question. I stated a similar thread a year ago, as have others.

I signed up for Beta a while back, hoping I’d get a preview.

All I get is more support for products I have not nor will not purchase until the ā€œuser experience is improvedā€.

Lost sales, lost revenue for Wyze

Aww, c’mon, they made the Events page worse.

Wyze, like just about any app developer, makes incremental changes to their app over time. Individually these changes are minor, but over time it’s quite a lot. But because they happen gradually they can be difficult to see.

They used to, not sure if they still do, use some kind of toolkit to allow them to write the majority of their code once yet have it run on both Android and iOS.

In any event a major rewrite is not something they are going to undertake lightly as the potential for it becoming a time and resource sink is huge.

But I imagine at some point that will become a must have as opposed to a nice to have. Hopefully that point is fast approaching?

I’ll start a Kickstarter campaign to fund it as long as I get Landscape mode for my iPad in the end.

That would be very nice! I’ll second that request!

Diggggggggggg

It’s a process Angus, you know that… Now on the topic of efficiency… meh

One of the WYZE guys eluded to version 3 being the one we are waiting for.
We are on v2.12.xx. Only 87.xx versions to go. :grinning:

If ya throws a lot, I mean a LOT of money at a chicken does it begin to quack like a duck or is it still just a dumb clucker…

The real question I have is whether it is the money or is it the resources?? And yes, they are tied together. In the case that is true, then a kickstarter campaign might be an option…

Not a bad idea! Money can solve most problems!

Yeah, like hiring some more "gifted programmers. These guys often seem to screw up incremental change, even after sending it to ā€œbetaā€ testers.
It’s not like they haven’t been working on this app for years.

True enough. Of course a lot of the ā€œscrew upsā€ turn out to be user errors. The whole airtime fairness debacle is a great example. And I helped a guy last week that had an old Linksys BEFW11S4 router. No wonder he was having issues!

XIAOMI band 4 has this feature, it detects when you are sleeping and it automatically turn the notifications off and reduces the brightness, this will be a nice feature instead of having to set up the time.

Casting my ā€˜vote’ here as a way to provide WYZE feedback.

Short answer, YES, the apps can use some improvement. I would temper that by saying just about any app on my device has at least one or two things I would like improved to benefit the way I interact with it. :ok_hand:

DETAILS

  • I can only speak to Android as that is all I use. The App consistently works for me and I have few issues with it. [:iphone: = Google Pixel 4 XL, TCL 10 PRO]

  • One of the best things about the WYZE app is that everything is in ONE app. I do not want a separate app for the devices (IMO). My hope is that we will see more (stronger) integrations since it is all in one place (band + scale, sensor+blub, etc.)

  • WYZE, no excuse not to get the basics done to have a first class app (i.e. use what the OS gives you. Examples: dark mode, rotation, notifications, etc.). The app should expose and utilize all of the features the OS allows for maximum user flexibility.

  • Ridiculous Expectations: Those of you complaining about the health features on the $25 band need to temper expectations. You did not purchase a device for multiple 100s of dollars. You spent $25 bucks. Expecting best of bread health reporting, health compliance and features is NOT realistic in my opinion. I do expect the band to provide legitimate and consistent reporting on the basics as advertised. The band has done this for me.

  • Wish List  (not based in reality for what I paid for the devices, but WYZE often surprises)

  • You have my health information (scale and band). Please provide health insights? Partner with someone?
  • Update the charts and graphs for rotation, more information, more consistency.
  • Allow for simple app customization to appease more users (color, size, etc.). Dark mode. Landscape mode.
  • Link the band to the notifications settings of the mobile device (i.e. notifications quite, band quite)
  • Health Insights
  • List all devices on the Firmware Upgrade page in the App (i.e. Scale, Band)
  • Allow shortcuts to be widgets or icons on device desktop

Non App Related

  • Provide a CamPlus unlimited account. (i.e. $100 a year, unlimited cameras or whatever price works for WYZE).

Good post, my nutshell thought is:
• if it was advertised, provide it (working as advertised too)
• If it is a product defect, own it and inform us of actions taken
• If you receive a request for help, reply and follow up
• We don’t really need more ā€˜pie in the sky’, working existing products would be nice

A year since anyone posted on this topc…:

@AustinByr has there been any movement on Wyze App v3 ? Will I ever see a Fully Landscape compliant Wyze App on my iPad Pro 12.9 with it’s attached keyboard anytime soon?

I understand App v3 was put on hold for specific reasons. Is it still on hold?

Has Wyze employed those that can rewrite the App from the ground up to ensure it is fully Landscape compliant on iPadOS and Android Tablets?

Other’s companies have done apps that play nice on iPhones and Android Phones, as well as IPads and Android Tablets… so, apparently it is possible to do.

Will we see Wyze App V3 anytime in the near future?.. say by 2030 ?.. 2040?..
