Before they can fix it, they (Wyze and Amazon) first have to acknowledge that it’s broken. Have they even done that, thst you know of?
I don’t think it is necessarily Alexa related. I don’t have my 3 v2 cams and they are not hooked up to my Alexa and they haven’t detected people for about 4 days now. I agree they need to acknowledge there is a problem. Very disappointing and frustrated as well.
Different topic, kinda.
When will the new v3 Cam have alexa person detection ?
This feature has been working well the past week since the down time issue. (At least for me) My V3 cams (3 total) as well as my V2’s all have recognized person detection settings in the Alexa app. Under devices, cameras. -can choose to toggle person detection and which and how many Alexa device(s) to announce to. I’m still figuring out best way to turn this announcement off tho easily. Seems independent of Wyze app itself? Can also set up a routine to announce a special sound or turn on light when person detected.
Because it can be done via Alexa rules that can have conditions and time frames, you might find it easier to do that way instead of the Devices, Camera trigger setting. Both are using Alexa and the Wyze skill, not the Wyze app.
None of mine v3 in the alexa app has that option only older camera do
Do you have CamPlus on the V3? It doesn’t work with legacy person detection, and the Wyze Alexa skill does not currently support regular motion events. (I hope it will.)
I have my V3 and V2 camera’s setup via the Alexa Skill. I have them announcing when a person is detected. This has been working quite well. Matter of fact, during the period where notifications were hit or miss, I seemed to get notification via Alexa first. Now, I get notifications via the app and then Alexa most of the time. There still is a period of time where I am not notified via the Wyze App but Alexa will.
I do not have it on any camera’s. Interesting it works on my older cameras. Thanks
The old PD only works on the V2 and Pan cameras.
Some type of PD has to be enabled in the Wyze app before Alexa will see Person Detection.
You must have Cam Plus enabled on each camera to use announcement skill in the alexa app. I noticed this when I could only enable it on the two camera’s which have Cam Plus. I just activated cam plus on my other cameras, and now all my cam’s have this announcement feature within the alexa app.
Oh yea and it works on all the cameras v2, v3, Pan, and Outdoor.
I can’t believe Wyze is still one of the only vendors to provide this amazing feature! We use it every day and I love it. As far as I can determine only Ring provides a similar function (as does Cloud Camera on the Google ecosystem).
Looks as if it is fairly straightforward to implement in a Skill. This would work even better (much faster) with cameras that have local person detection capabilities.
All praise to @Frederik for being the pioneer here and to @HDRock for finding it so early. I think we are years ahead of other camera brand users. I can’t switch without this feature.
Some of my other brand cameras will announce motion with Alexa but will not announce a person
A possible tip. From my limited experience it seems that using the Alexa, Devices, Cameras settings to turn this feature on may be MORE reliable than using the equivalent Alexa routines method. Unfortunately.
As of yesterday all of my cameras all brands have stopped announcing motion , people from Alexa , I did not change anything with Alexa , I have been looking everything over and I can not find out why.
I get announcements from routines I have set , but none from camera settings
I noticed today that they started working again, I didn’t do anything
I think it occurred a sometime around the first of the year. I saw a Youtube video where a smart home solver guy was talking about it. But it only is available on Cam Plus cameras.
