Not to mention the digital water depletion.
When I was visiting family last week, my youngest nephew was carping about how those facilities are driving up RAM prices, too.
I think in three years they flip the big switch and everything transmutes to ai, robots and ubi in a big whuuuuuump!

Lying computers. I got a Shaker/Earthquake alert on my phone about 15 min. ago. Said 5.9 near Reno and Carson City Nevada. I checked USGS and they posted, said sorry it was a false alert and they don’t know why. Maybe one of my
gang was near Reno and stole one of their sensors.
I made a query combining Groucho Marx, Woody Allen and Dick Cavett recently and it told me they were all Jewish. True story.
I believe Dick is from Nebraska. Quite a stretch. ![]()
“SanDisk reportedly jacks up flash prices by 50% as memory makers cash in on AI-fueled demand”
I have been watching the prices on 256 GB High Endurance cards for my Wyze cameras. I would like to get larger capacity cards but don’t need them yet.
I am going to wait and keep an eye on pricing.
Remember the chip shortage in cars during the pandemic? I did not need a new vehicle back then either.
I hesitate (a little) in being alarmist (am I?) but if prices leap again without first pulling back and stabilizing some I’d guess this would suggest further ‘gains.’
I am not a professional of any kind. Obviously. ![]()
In a perfect world, Wyze, a home security camera outfit, would comment on flock and its implications for society.
But the ‘perfect world’ is still ~3 years away so I guess we can hold out until then.
Ugh, I got that same alert, only my earthquake alert app got stuck on vibrate so my phone vibrated the alert for 5 hours straight until I woke up (my wife couldn’t figure out how to make it stop), and now I find out from you it was a false alert. So a double bug…1) it didn’t even happen, 2) it got stuck on vibrate for 5 hours.
They have - at least in the limited set I’ve been monitoring.
Also, this…
Crucial is Micron’s consumer brand.

I’t’s all AI’s fault. I knew it is good for nothing ![]()
There are definitely some negatives being caused by AI, and definitely a lot of positives coming from AI too. I think this guy makes a reasonable point:
Poppycock. ![]()
Apparently ~80% of the US population is not interested in surrendering their futures to super intelligent machines. It’s a democracy, so we’re not having it, case closed. ![]()
