I am having same issue with NetGear router. I have turned off the 5G and connected to the extender 2.4g via my phone. When setting up device on Wyze, I select the 2gext network and all I ever get is ‘cannot connect to local network’. What am I doing wrong? My phone can use the extender network just fine.
Gave up and bought a base station and diff cam wyze cam outdoor v2… and guess what… i cannot get the base station to connect to my router. I used to love wyze stuff, but I am starting to have doubts
THANK YOU!!! This connectivity issue has been plauging our floodlight camera since we installed it and it was so intermittent we had no idea what was causing the issue. I disabled the 5g network on the extender and boom.. perfect connection. This has been driving me NUTS. I really wish they would put this info in the documentation.
Depending on what particular extender you’re using and what options the manufacturer gives you (along with how you’re choosing to configure the extender, whether you’re using a separate SSID for the signal it uses to provide Wi-Fi to other devices, etc.), you might still be able to use the 5 GHz band for backhaul to the main router. You may also want to pay attention to the network security that the extender is using, as some mixed-mode WPA2/WPA3 implementations and some IoT devices (including Wyze) don’t play well together. If you still find that you’re experiencing connectivity issues with your floodlight and the extender, then maybe try setting it to WPA2 only (in addition to restricting the 5 GHz broadcast).
I don’t see a mention of which particular floodlight you’re using, so I’d note that Cam Floodlight Pro is capable of using both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz while Cam Floodlights v1 and v2 are 2.4 GHz only (same link), so that might be another consideration in how you proceed if you notice recurrence of the problem.
For whatever it’s worth, I had some connectivity issues with Wyze and other devices when I was using a TP-Link RE315 in Access Point mode with wired backhaul, and what seemed to make the biggest performance difference for me was changing its security to WPA2 only. This worked for me even though I set it so that both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs were the same (and the same as the gateway I connected it to).
