The Wyze Cam OG will continue to record, the issue is after about 30 minutes the cam attempts to reboot to re-establish the connection. When it reboots it essentially forgets the time if it cannot connect and get it. Due to that the recordings end up saved in a different location and the card needs to be removed from the camera to see them.

This is why I wondered if pulling the card from the Cam v2 for analysis would yield anything useful.

After 30 min of internet outage (not power cycled), the recordings start saving in a randomly generated dated folder with a incorrect timestamp. The Wyze app relies on the recordings being in the correct folder to align the footage chronologically and to play it back. As a result, you need to physically remove the micro SD card to play the footage back in a phone or PC. Flashing this Cam V3 firmware will cause to act exactly like the Cam OG cameras. In comparison, the Cam V3 firmware of 4.36.11.8391 can playback without any problem (under the same condition).

Fix-It Friday - July 2024 Update

After enabling local NTP server and enabling “Intercept NTP client requests” on my Asus router, I can say this issue is resolved with this workaround. In fact, it’s even better than before because I can power cycle my camera while I don’t have any internet and it will still record properly (to properly simulate power and internet outage).
