Wyze Cam v3 not recording to SD card (with local continuous recording on) when offline

unbelievable - this is a KNOWN bug and has not been fixed? What is the point of an SD card and continuous recording if it does not record when the internet is down? Why does it need internet for this? I understand internet is needed for events to be uploaded, but to stop the continuous recording on the SD card too, is just pointless. PLEASE FIX THIS. We’ve had a lot of internet outages lately and really need the cameras doing their job.

If you look over the info here, you’ll see it does record to the SD card. A brand new camera that has never been connected starts recording as soon as you put an SD card in and plug it into the wall, no internet needed.

The issue is these do not have internal clocks and batteries, they need the internet to set their time. So the recordings are under the wrong time and date.

The reason some of them started doing it after 30 minutes of no internet is they’ve apparently adopted a more aggressive approach to trying to get your cams back online if there is an issue, so after 30 minutes they reboot the cam to try and get internet back, which is what causes the time to get reset.

The recordings are there, they’re just going to be under the wrong time and date. Easiest way to access them is to pull the card and put it in a PC, but you can also look up the date your firmware was built and look under that date in the app, the recordings will be there (though that information is admittedly not the easiest thing to figure out).

I’m assuming the thinking is there are more people out there that want their cams to automatically come back online after a problem than there are ones who want to use them in “offline” mode - which they were never technically designed for.

Never had a problem with the cams restarting after a power outage

That’s not what is being discussed. The 30 minute reboot is when the cam has power but no internet, in order to try and get it to reconnect to the wifi.

Checked this, and can not find any files created after wifi dropped for a long period of time. It used to be it would just continue to record after wifi dropped without making hidden files.

Pointless having to remove the SC card, especially if accessing it remotely once the internet is back. Some of my cameras are mounted on external high walls and are inaccessable.
I dont’ see why the software can’t be fixed to store the clock in the camera and just check the internet from time to time to confirm it’s correct.

You can revert back to previous firmware without this new feature, but you’ll still have to get access to the cams to do that.

As @grapefruityoda mentioned, if you go back to July 3 2024, you should see the footage there, as that’s the date it takes after a reboot but before it sets the correct time via NTP.

In the name of science, I disabled my internet connection, enabled local NTP server on my Asus router, and set it to intercept NTP packets. Then booted up my spare Panv3 and let it record for 5 mins. Turned internet back on, viewed the SD card, and the recordings are there under the correct date and time.

So for those that have frequent internet outages and want to avoid this “feature”, potentially look for a router that supports local NTP server with intercept.
