Hi, all. I’m new for this community but I need your suggestion to utilize my new device well. Early this March I visited Fairbanks Alaska to observe northern lights. I could observe phenomenous beauty there. But also I noticed that one northern lights chaser has used wyze cam pan for checking sky condition. I was so impressed with the quality of the images and automatic scanning features. Now I acquired one but I’m wondering if wyze AI can notify the northern lights happening. I understand AI detect and notify feature of baby monitoring, dog burking, and some movements. But I want to get notice for extreme weather changes, especially northern lights and meteor showers. Thank you for your expertise.
Welcome to the Forum, @kaznom!
That’s an interesting idea. I don’t know if it’s something Wyze would consider trying to implement, but I guess it doesn’t hurt to ask.
In the meantime, instead of waiting to see if Wyze does something with the suggestion, I’d probably consider checking out NOAA’s Aurora Dashboard (Experimental) and/or doing Web searches for things like aurora notify
or meteor shower notify
. Those seem to turn up multiple options for apps or services where one could sign up for notifications of that kind of sky or space weather activity at a given location. Something like that could provide a clue for when you’ll want to check your camera’s recordings to see if it captured anything of interest, and then you can share that with the community in the Captured on Wyze category!
Thank you for prompt response and thanks for your welcoming me. Last visit to Alaska was extremely wonderful and I have plan to go back this autumn with my family. So this preparation has started. Definitely I’ll search your idea to get notification of Northern lights and meteor shower through other application. Anyway, thank you so much

Wyze AI can’t detect auroras or meteor showers since it’s limited to motion/sound events. But you can set your Cam Pan on a schedule or time-lapse to capture the sky. Pairing it with aurora alert apps is probably the best way, alerts tell you when to look, and Wyze records the view.
Wyze may not be able to identify auroras and meteor showers, but it is capable of detecting their motion and shifting pixel changes, in the same way that it misidentifies car headlight flashes as “persons” and “pets.”
Beautiful isn’t it? Cameras seem to be better at seeing northern lights than our eyes, mostly due to light amplification and long exposure. I’ve only seen them a couple of times in person, but the best by far was when at see in the north Atlantic on our dark navy ship. The same with the stars, no light pollution at all and sky as far as you can see in every direction.
Last October we got a very rare view of the northern lights were I live in rural NY state. The pink was much more visible in the camera than with the naked eye, the green was similar.
NOAA is notifying us some states may see the Northern Lights tonight.
“ People in states like Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Washington, South Dakota, Michigan, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Idaho, Alaska, Oregon, New York, Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa, Wyoming and Wisconsin could all see the northern lights on Monday”
