Will there ever by Wyze Cam app for the PC?

Good Afternoon:

My Mom is 91 years old and lives in Charleston, SC, and we’ve installed 3 of your cams at her house so we can help her keep an eye on things. We live in Colorado, and currently we’re forced to view the cams only on our mobile devices but would very much like to view them on our PCs. Is there any chance that Wyze will produce a cam app for the PC? We’re using SD cards, so we don’t need cloud storage or the other additional features provided by your current paid plans. We would simply like to be able to view the cams at my Mom’s house on our PCs. Will there ever be Wyze Cam apps for the PC?

I look forward to your reply.

Thank you!
Scott

Don’t hold your breath. It is very obvious that Wyze people are young and completely believe that the world revolves around phones. Lots of examples why…

Have you tried the Wyze Web Portal to view cameras on a computer?

No because you can only do that with a paid plan, and we don’t need all the extra stuff they want you to pay for with those plans.

You might explore some of these options to try to get the Android Wyze App to run on a PC.

Welcome to the Forum, @scotthco!

Please be aware that this is primarily a user-to-user support community, so even if you intend for your communication to be directed at Wyze, the likelihood that someone from Wyze might see and respond directly to your post is difficult to say. It happens, but there’s probably a higher likelihood of a direct response in something like a relevant Wyze News topic created by a Wyze employee. (I’m just one of the volunteers trying to assist, and I don’t speak for Wyze in any capacity.)

What you’re requesting has been covered multiple times elsewhere in the Forum, and Wyze’s response to this point has seemed to be Web View, but some users have done other things, like using emulators on a PC (BlueStacks or others), running the Wyze iOS app directly on some Macs, or things like Samsung DeX if you’re using mobile devices within that ecosystem. I’ve had a good experience running scrcpy on Linux with my phone physically tethered to my PC via USB, but when I’m doing that I’m physically controlling my phone with my PC and basically running the phone within its own application window on my desktop. The nice thing about that is that it’s actually the Wyze app I’m experiencing, so I can access the microSD card recordings and everything else, just as if I was using my phone—because I’m actually using my phone, just interacting directly with the PC to drive it. You can read more about using DeX and scrcpy in this topic or search the Forum for other potential solutions.

I can recommend this with cam v2s and v3s - as long as your PC is recent with decent memory and speed. Unfortunately, the OG has some issues on Bluestacks that I wouldn’t want to negotiate.

An alternative is an Android tablet with a big screen. Install tiny cam pro. You can also install the Wyze app on it for account/device configuration and maintenance.

Samsung Dex is a nice alternative.

Reolink has a nice client program that works on a PC

Your able to rearrange cams just by clicking and dragging

You can even have some cams with larger windows than the other cams for priority cams, very flexible program.

Reolink has an app that now displays Wyze Cams? That’s great. I will have to look into that. :grinning:

As long as a stable, mature API is accessible, it is not difficult to develop Windows GUI applications (as opposed to full-suite Windows applications). That’s where the problem is. Why would one devout effort to do this when, at any time Wyze releases a firmware revision, the API is liable to break?

Look what happened to Docker-Wyze bridge. My server instance is no longer working.

Reolink has a PC “Client” that you can view your cameras without a paid plan.
You still need a smart phone to install the cameras, but once installed, you don’t need the smart phone app.
Everything can be managed with the PC windows client.

My first cam was a Wyze OG, and I still use it to watch my front yard (through the living room window).
I pay the $20 per year for Cam Plus.

But my next 4 cameras are Reolink for my backyard.
The only reason I keep the Wyze OG is because it is a very small camera and fits perfectly on my windowsill. Reolink has one small camera, the Lumus, that might fit and replace the OG. Just havn’t gotten around to cutting the Wyze cord.

Has Wyze ever considered having the Web portal actually work reliably?

There are multiple ways to run android apps on a PC. You might need to try a couple of different ones to find one that works well with the Wyze android app.

As another alternative, depending on what sort of mobile device you have you may be able to mirror or cast the image from your mobile to your PC or TV,

If none of those methods work for you, My own solution is to monitor my cameras on an 11” tablet that I use specifically for that task. The Wyze app’s default group view in landscape gives me up to four cameras on screen.

My nominally 11” diagonal tablet has a screen about 9¼x6 which makes the individual camera images about 4½x3 which I find completely comfortable for generally monitoring the cameras, and with just one tap I can almost instantly bring any one camera up to the full tablet screen.

I am currently using a Lenovo K11 which works beautifully displaying the cameras 24/7. I had previously used a Fire 10HD jailbroke to run Android apps - it worked but wasn’t quite stable enough to run the Wyze app as reliably as I wanted.

I have an 11-inch Fire tablet and installed tiny cam pro. Very good combo: tinycam pro lets you view multiple screens at once, and the big screen makes it easy to see things. The only con is that it’s too big/heavy to hold.

I also have the Wyze app installed; no problem, either, but I like tinycam better for the bigger display.

Thanks for mentioning that. It can be another easy alternative if you have devices that cooperate. It’s not something I’ve used a lot, but I have cast a low-end tablet to a Roku device in order to view a 4-camera group on a TV. :+1:
