V4 floodlight always on auto

A lot of things should be, unfortunately, it’s not working like it should. This is why I opened the Trouble report and brought it up here.

Did you you try a factory reset? Maybe it is just a faulty cam and doesn’t want to follow the app setting rules.? Good Luck.

I restarted it, power cycled it, reset all settings on and off… Honestly do not know how to “Factory Reset” but will certainly try that!

Found the instructions:

To factory reset your Wyze Cam v4, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the microSD Card: If there is a microSD card inserted in the camera, take it out.
  2. Power On the Camera: Ensure the camera is plugged into power.
  3. Press and Hold the Setup Button: Locate the setup button on the bottom of the camera. Press and hold it for 10 seconds until the status light on the front of the camera turns solid red.
  4. Wait for the Status Light: Once the status light starts flashing red, the camera has been reset.
  5. Set Up the Camera Again: Open the Wyze app and set up the camera as if it were new.

Before jumping through hoops and resetting the camera, why don’t you delete the app and download a fresh copy?

why would the app cause one camera to act this way?

I don’t know, just giving you an easier option to try before climbing a ladder.

Reset successful. Still see schedule options while on MANUAL.
Will also test for any auto triggers of spotlight.

That’s how the app behaves now. It should be grayed out.

That’s exactly how mine looks (don’t know why it shows the sunrise-sunset when set to manual, but just ignore it).

Hopefully your problem is solved now, but I guess you’ll find out when it is dark.

Well, that stubborn SpotLight insist on coming on!! :face_with_steam_from_nose:

That makes no sense. You definitely have no automations configured that might be turning it on? Does anyone else have access to the cam either via shared login or guest account?

If the factory reset didn’t fix the issue, either something is turning it on, or there is some weird glitch. Hardly seems that it could be hardware related since it is coming on with motion (or I guess maybe we’re not 100% sure of that, maybe it is random?).

Only thing left would be
Delete from the app
Factory reset
Re-add to the app but give it a bit of a different name to help ensure it doesn’t download previous settings

Other than all of the above, if it still comes on by itself, it sounds like something is defective and I’d try exchanging or replacing it under warranty.

I’m so embarrassed!!!

I have no recollection of setting any automation, but I DID!!

I went digging and found one!

I apologize to you all!

There was no way in hell I could figure out why I would’ve turned an automation on to turn on that light when you can do it by turning the switch on and off

but for some reason one night I must’ve been experimenting and did that.
So camera is working fine, I’m an idiot :zany_face:and I apologize!

I’m just glad you found the solution and took the time to share it, since this was kind of a puzzle otherwise.

That’s weird. An automation survived a “factory reset”?

That does not surprise me. I recently did a factory reset on a Cam Pan v3 that’s giving me some issues, and it retained the same Waypoints that I’d set before (still working in the v2.50x app, still broken in the v3.5x app). Granted, I did set it up with the same name as before, but I imagine data like that on the server side is using the MAC address or some other unique identifier as the primary key, so I understand why an Automation could still successfully run against a reset device.

I can visualize how that happens. This is Wyze after all. But they shouldn’t call it “factory reset”. Wyze sells refurbished units. Does that mean the users have to scrutinize all those products for still active automations?

I can’t speak for Wyze or answer that question, but it’s a decent thought. Maybe the primary key isn’t solely something like a MAC but a combination of a user’s account ID (which I imagine is some key number in a database) plus MAC or some other unique identifier? Otherwise, yeah, I can imagine if Automations were tied only to a device’s MAC, serial number, or other identifier then that would be a mess.

I’m just speculating, though, and haven’t tried any refurbished units myself.

Yeah I can confirm that the automations seem to survive even if you delete the cam, factory reset it, and name it something different when re-adding it (have done it with an OG a couple times recently). It goes back into the automation automatically. Must be based on MAC address or some other identifier.

The automation is in the app and synched to the wyze servers, not stored on the camera (they won’t work when internet is down) so a new user would not have that issue, it is only when you use it with the same account.
