Solar Pan Cam Resolution

My Camera has no problem detecting boats that come by my dock. The issue is i am unable to read the hull/registration numbers on the boats that pass by within 10 feet of my dock. I want to be able to report boats that are exceeding “no wake” speed in the lake cove which is a posted “no wake” zone. Our lake has specific visual criteria to determine if you’re exceeding no wake speed which are very apparent in the images, but you need to be able to read the registration number. to make a report. I have tried exporting the pictures to be processed by photo processing tools (i.e., sharpening. edge detection and AI based resizing), but the base image is too degraded to be useful. It would appear that the image is compressed in the camera and introduces “jaggies” which makes the whole process moot. Is there any way to get the images stored/exported at their full 2K resolution to avoid compression artifacts? Seems like it would be useful option for the user to chose, particularly if they are recording to an SD Card/

These cams use very high compression, so it isn’t the resolution that is giving you problems, it is the fact that moving objects mixed with a fairly low frame rate and very high compression results in motion blur and ghosting.

I use an OG Telephoto cam aimed at the street at an angle (so that it is somewhat straight on view of cars coming up the street) and that one can pick up license plates when it is light out and they aren’t moving too fast (less than 30 or so). Motion across the field of view is going to show the issue a lot more than toward/away from the camera.

Unfortunately these aren’t really the cams for being able to pick up fine details, especially on moving objects.

Well, if the camera firmware compresses the image to minimize cloud storage file size, rendering the image virtually useless for identification of license plates/registration numbers from 15 feet away, it is a waste of money and bandwidth …

All the brands use very high compression, but I wish Wyze would allow at least the SD card to store larger files with less compression. Wyze is on par with most of the competitors though (actually better than several others I’ve dealt with). Somewhat of a necessary evil with wifi.

The dash cams in my cars have files that are about 10x larger and much easier to make out a license plate or other details, especially on moving objects. But they also can only get around 8 hours on a 32GB card (and that’s at 720P 20FPS).
