PC Mag: WyzeCam v2 Offers Upgraded Specs for Same $20 Price

From PC Mag:

The affordable Wyze Cam, which earned an “excellent” rating in PCMag’s review, is getting a spec boost.

Wyze Cam v2 offers a new motion-tagging feature, plus higher image quality and enhanced sound quality compared to the original — for the same $20 price. Wyze Labs says this is the company’s “first major upgrade” to Wyze Cam’s hardware.

The new motion-tagging feature “detects and highlights motion in both live stream and replay modes,” so you don’t have to manually track down that footage. Besides that, this new version also features a “powerful new CMOS sensor,” which offers clearer images in both the day and night, Wyze Labs wrote in its announcement.

Other new features include a “Class-K audio power amplifier and a new audio chip,” which promise to offer better sound quality and less interference. Wyze Labs also switched the glossy finish on the original for a matte to “reduce reflection,” the company wrote.

Wyze Cam v2 is available for pre-order now and slated to begin shipping next week.

If you have the original Wyze Cam, Wyze Labs said it will “continue to support and enhance” the original version via app and firmware updates.

That model earned PCMag’s coveted Editors’ Choice award. “In addition to delivering 1080p video, this tiny home security camera offers many of the features that you get from cameras that cost at least five times as much,” we wrote in our review. “It doesn’t work with other smart home devices and only captures video at 10 frames per second, but it’s still our Editors’ Choice for affordable home security cameras.”
