The problem is the same that Windows is having. Blocking modern security threats requires modern hardware. That is why Windows 11 is requiring TPM among other things. Android AFAIK is similar in that it’s security needs a current kernel that doesn’t support hardware past a certain age. You may be ok with a certain amount of risk, but the risk isn’t only yours. Wyze apps and devices are portals into their cloud and must be secured.
The main reason software and hardware suppliers always mention related to their updates is “security security security”, just to mention an example about how absurd and far from reality all this is, Win10 requires new hardware and uses 10 times more space (of inefficient code) than XP but this week a serious security update was released even for the unsupported Win7 to amend a security hole in the printing routines that allows to execute arbitrary code, how is that ? they reinvented the wheel but with defects, printing had no issues like that in XP, something similar happened a few years ago with a Win7 virus that didn’t affect XP so the conclution is Newer or Upgraded hard/soft is not neccessary more secure or better, sometimes it even goes in the opposite direction in spite of having users to spend a lot of money in new hard/soft and also keeping older applications and hardware to run in the new systems so you end spending a huge amount of money and probably even though you cannot do certain things only offered in older hardware specifically made for certain tasks. Don’t take the red pill and awake all this is just a very lucrative game for manufacturers. Probably these new guys hadn’t been able to put a man on the moon with Apollo’s computer I can almost hear they saying “its a ridiculous hardware with a nonsense amount of memory and cpu power” you see old guys could they thought different, “Just think different ©” …
Actually it’s suspected that the PrintNightmare problem exists in Vista, XP, 2000, and 98 as well. It’s just that those operating systems have been unsupported for so long that Microsoft won’t even look to see if they are affected.
Confirmed by Microsoft.
All versions of Windows are listed in the Security Updates table. Are all versions vulnerable?
All versions of Windows are vulnerable. As of July 7, 2021, Microsoft has released security updates for this vulnerability for all supported versions of Windows listed in the security updates table in this CVE.
(Emphasis on “supported”.) What’s nuts is how poorly these things are publicized. I just ran through multiple articles and they only indirectly convey that most home users (and business desktops) are not vulnerable to this as a remote exploit so long as they are behind a router or firewall that blocks (or refrains from forwarding) ports 135 and 445.
I think.
AIUI, only companies and home users who have things set up so that they can access the Windows PC’s print spooler remotely over the internet are in danger. This requires opening ports in the router/firewall which no ordinary user should ever do.
Could you confirm my understanding that IOS 12.5.4 is good in terms of functionality? Thank you.
Yes, Android 7.0 and iOS 12.0 or above are good.
Oh Wyze Gwyn… 58 yO TOTALLY Un hip with it and un cool with the tech no …stuff. what is a person such as This suppose to do with this type of up date. I’m hearing that I have to up date my phones ios something or other? Can you tell me in Grandma Lam term what it is I’m needing to do. I run my one out door cam off my Galaxy S20 Ultra 5g
Looking to get 2 more cameras later but for now I’m learning how to use this one. Lol
So… 1 cam…1 phone… {Sigh}
Grassyass.
Metta
Metta,
If you’re running a Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, you’re all set. The “ios something or other” is for apple phones. And your Galaxy is new enough that it would have some with an Android version higher than 7.0. So you’re all set.
Just updated to latest firmware and cannot access either V2 Camera. Software was up to date!! Now nothing.
From your phone/tablet, go to Wyze app Home > Account > About. Are you running app version 2.22.21 (or higher if beta)?
All good now!
Isn’t that what Verizon used to do? But it didn’t actually end up being $0 in practice because you needed to pay various fees including line activation. It was easier if you already had Verizon but you still had to pay something to get the new device activated on your account.
Every carrier did. Many still do.
Thanks for adding more stress to my life ass it is. This is confusing: Is there some kind of simple compatibility chart and not this wall of legal text you’re presenting?
- I just care about the original wyze bulbs going forward. (20+ bulbs and more planned… but now maybe)
- I will accept even downgraded to just turning on/off on “legacy support”
- or will you just cut me off serverside?
- I already lost the app recently for my android 9 tablets that I have for control, and now my 4 other control android devices.
Seems like they don’t want users to buy more… just one phone and one of each device. Odd business model.
We are discussing this here: Wyze android app says it will stop working January 11, 2022
People with older devices need the ability to continue to use the app, even if there is not the same level of security.
If your phone/tablet is older than 4 years old,it’s most likely not going to work,
That is pretty bad. I can’t think of any good reason to base it on device age. Makes more sense to base it on age of last security update. (Pixel 3 is 3.5 years old and ended updates a couple months ago)
As long as a person has Android 8.0 and higher, which most people do you can by a Motorola or L.G trac phone cheap for $60.00 and use it just for your Wyze products
@kae4560 - I don’t think so! I mean, I will NOT buy a specific Android device to support Wyze.
