I’m so tired of spending hours and hours of research and to get their cameras integrated into my smart home so that I can easily and conveniently view the cameras outside of the APP! I’m also so tired of this attitude of “for the price point and features” you can’t beat WYZE. This is not actually true. If you add in the CAM+ subscription then the total cost of ownership is actually more expensive. There is a lot of competition out there offering more for the same price or less. I WILL backup what I’m saying below. I also decided to slowly sell all of my cameras and move away from them to a brand that listens to their customers needs. No matter how big or small.
I also cannot believe the companies arrogance when they make statements saying that the demand for Home Assistant integration and things like RTSP is only demanded by a small amount of customers. The request and topic comes up so often and is still very active. Go look at their forum and sort the topics by most views.
- The RTSP discussion is 3rd from the top with 160K views and over 1.4k likes
- The home Assistant topic is 8th on the list with 111k views and 1.1k likes
- the Home Assistant Integration has 65.5K views and 1.2K likes
Here is the research I did on some of the competitors out there (a Lot more exist.). I live in South Africa so I include local pricing in Rands and also converted it to dollars and then I also compared the US pricing for all products.
EZVIZ - Outer 2k Wifi Bullet (R1199/$66,16) AMAZON US $49,99 EZviz Pan and tilt cam (R910/$50) AMAZON US pricing $19
- I have the ability to easily view the cameras on my TV especially at night so “WE” the family can QUICKLY see what is happening around the house if I/we wake up to disturbances or if the alarm goes off.
- NO CLOUD subscription required to access features.
- Cheaper than the 2k Wyze Cam
- They are either cheaper than WYZE CAMs where I live (South Africa) and have the same features and have the same features
- Has RTSP support by default
- You don’t need cloud subscriptions
- has an app for Windows, OS X
- Has default Home Assistant integration which enables you to integrate it with your smart home and smart home sensors
TP-Link Tapo C320WS WIFI bullet Camera ($75 R1349) AMAZON US $44,99 / Pan and Tilt 3MP (R849/$47) AMAZON US pricing $30
- I have the ability to easily view the cameras on my TV especially at night so “WE” the family can QUICKLY see what is happening around the house if I/we wake up to disturbances or if the alarm goes off.
- NO CLOUD subscription required to access the features I require
- 2k camera
- They are either cheaper than WYZE CAMs where I live (South Africa) and have the same features
- Has RTSP support by default
- You don’t need cloud subscriptions, 1 device = R63 ($3,5) but they cap it at a max of R210 ($12) for 10 cameras or more.
- Has an app for Windows, OS X, iPAD etc etc.
- Has default Home Assistant integration which enables you to integrate it with your smart home and smart home sensors
Wyze v3 (R975/$54) / Wyze v3 pro (R1495/$83) WYZE US $35 and $53,99 / Wyze Pan V3 (R1425/$79) WYZE US pricing $33,99
CLOUD SUBSCRIPTION R197 $10,99
- Expensive cloud subscription per camera, even if you buy a more expensive competitors product after paying the CAM+ subscription for a few months completely cancels out the price point argument.
- No app for Mac or Windows, you only get a watered down half developed web view which you can only use if you have cam+ subscription.
- No native RTSP (you have to frustratingly hack the cams) because WYZE has decided for their customers that they don’t need it and that the demand is too low.
- No native Home Assistant integration because WYZE has decided for their customers that they don’t need it and that the demand is too low
