High degree of "fisheye" on new Battery Video Doorbell

Just bought the new Battery Video Doorbell and love the wider FOV, but I’m noticing a significant “fisheye” effect from the camera in both standard and wide-angle views. In standard mode, the edges of the image are noticeably distorted, and in wide-angle, the effect is even more pronounced. Is there a plan to address this issue, as I believe other cameras have managed to reduce it?

Welcome to the Forum, @srapp417!

The pronounced distortion in Battery Video Doorbell’s view is one of my least favorite parts of the experience with that product. I do like that it shows more of my porch surface (I was previously using Video Doorbell v2 with a custom mount to provide a downward angle for packages), but I feel like I’m looking out a tunnel whenever I pull up this camera’s view. Because of the distortion and the colors (Video Doorbell v2 has a Wide Dynamic Range option that can be enabled), I’m probably going to go back to Video Doorbell v2 at some point (but I want to modify my mount design first).

I asked about the Switch View button in the recent Reddit AMA but didn’t get an answer. At that time, I’d tried it on two different phones and wasn’t seeing a difference at all when I enabled/disabled that control. I do see a difference when I check now with a third phone, so I guess that view feature is somewhat device dependent. Seeing that now on a different mobile device and reading your experience with it does make me wonder if that effect could be further mitigated with app/firmware updates; however, I’m not aware of any plans to specifically address this. If I had to guess, I would say that the “Standard View” (Switch View enabled/green) is probably the least distortion you’re likely to get from this doorbell camera.
