Direct access to SD card with download ability

Yes, I know. No need to shout.

As I mentioned before, the method you described works decently if you have a stable network AND don’t care about a (more-or-less) steady frame rate.

It does not work well when the remote network is low performance and hundreds of miles away.

A low bandwidth network can upload to the cloud successfully, but streaming isn’t useful as a way to record video. from such a network.

And honestly, the “record the stream/record the playback stream” method isn’t all that great for recording from a high-bandwidth network. The tool for searching and finding what you want to record is miserable, and if you want to record 10 minutes of video, you have to sit there streaming for 10 minutes. The suggested feature would allow asynchronous upload to the cloud of a selected range. It could run in the background whilst doing other things.

if you’re happy with the built-in feature, by all means use it. Nobody on this thread is advocating removing it, nor making the requested method mandatory.

My response was to sky.
Some users do not know this is possible.
I would think it is obvious we would all like direct access to SD card with download ability, which is the subject of this Wishlist item,

I don’t know how that is connected to upload to the cloud.

You can download the recorded video as you’re watching by recording it as you’re watching. If you want to download several hours all at once you won’t be able to but there’s not much use case for that since much of the footage would be of nothing happening that would be of interest. You can actually do that with the time lapse function but because it’s a long period recorded in a short video you won’t really see anything happening in real time unless it took place over a long period of time.

IMHO…

When all is said & done and the kludgy workarounds are found to be too unreliable, too resource consuming, or what ever…

We need secure network access to the camera data files… period. Automated camera data retrieval is imperative.

Thank you, I overlooked that option. Appreciate the help.

Fair play – the thread looked like a mash-up on my phone and I couldn’t see the directed reply.

I am very interested in this. In addition, being able to schedule download/upload times from the Wyze Cam(s), and/or to trigger a footage backup event to a target IP address/storage device as part of a Rule, would be desirable.

I would like to be able to download clips to my phone from the app, and/or to another computer on my network. I use Linux on my computers, so a generic protocol like SFTP or a network share drive that the camera hosts would be great.

Thanks for your work. I am enjoying my camera so far.

Thanks Jason21271, I have done so but appreciate the helpful prompt.

We had an Amazon package stolen off our front porch. We knew it had been delivered ( Amazon had a picture of it on our porch). The motion event missed it even though the detection zone was setup properly. Using the app playback function we were able to view the time interval when the theft occurred. Having to put a ladder up to retrieve the SD card was a PIA, especially when I dropped the tiny card.

It is absurd that we cannot download the SD files from a networked device.

We need this feature! Now!

You could have went to the time of the theft in the playback view and clicked on the record button and downloaded the whole scene to your device. This would have saved you a lot time and trouble.

I don’t like climbing ladders either .

Sorry to hear about the stolen package. I hope you catch the thief.

You’re welcome!

Hi Stop-
I just tried your method, several times, on my iPad, and i keep getting this message: Access Denied. What am i doing incorrectly?

thanks, in advance-
JoJo

Hello @JoJoCA Hmm…I assume you’re referring to the “view play back.” Do you have the camera setup with continuous recording to the SDcard? Have you tried viewing the “play back” with a different device like a phone or anything? :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi StopICU33-

Yes, I was referring to recording while viewing Playback. I do have the SD card set up to do continuous recording to SD card, and I have tried on several devices… a couple iPads and iPhone as well.

thanks-

JoJo

Is this a v2 cam or a Pan cam? Try turning off the cam through the app first, then unplug it, remove the SDcard and if it looks ok gently push it back in. Plug the camera back up and give it time to reconnect. Afterwards go to play back and see if it works. :slightly_smiling_face:

I cannot no longer view playback nor record it after the latest round of firmware and software updates. This feature would be very useful to me because I am paraplegic and going around taking SD cards out is a pain. Some cameras I can’t reach.

I have 5 cameras and they lag of playback has become so great that it is unusable. No matter if it is from my work Wifi or home, what camera or how many times I reboot the cable modem and access point. Only the 5 cameras with the latest firmware and the iPad, iPhone and Android with the latest software reproduce the issue.

When everything else fails accessing the sd card would save the day.

Card readers on desktops are notorious for “going bad” or just not being right from the start. Sometimes it’s the adapter you use( low end cheap brands typically “aren’t recognized” by my computer.) You could try buying a USB card reader adapter.

Still waiting for this function
