Diference in cam4 vrs cam OG

My objective is recording in Outdoors rain and sun. what model is good for me.

For me, the primary differences are:

  • V4 has better resolution. 2K vs OG 1080p
  • V4 has Wi-Fi 6 which is awesome if you have a router that is Wi-Fi 6 or higher. Also makes de-auth attacks against you impossible if you’re using WPA3 security (ie: burglar using a device to knock your cameras off the Internet so you don’t get notifications)
  • OG runs on FreeRTOS instead of Linux which makes it faster in most ways (loads the Livestream faster, fast notifications).
  • OG is more affordable and intended to be an entry level budget camera
  • V4 spotlight is nearly twice as bright.
  • V4 has wide dynamic range

Those are my primary considerations.

Many Wyze cameras are advertised as indoor/outdoor, but you will read on this forum about lens fogging up and moisture getting into connectors.

Are you able to mount cameras inside windows looking out? All of my Wyze Cam v3 cameras are positioned inside windows.

I have both, and honestly you can’t go wrong either way. During the day, the v4 is a bit sharper image, but not a huge difference. At night, the v4’s colors are a bit muted but the image is clearer. The OG has brighter colors (almost over-eggagerated) but more compression artifacts in low light.

I replaced one OG with a v4, haven’t seen a need to swap out the rest. Note that my OGs are the original ones and not the 2025 update but as far as I know there isn’t any significant difference between them.

I’d say get the v4 unless the cost is too high, in which case get the OG and don’t worry about missing out on anything.

In addition to what others have noted, I think Cam v4 may have better audio, if that’s important to what you’re recording. Without more detail about what you intend to capture, making a solid recommendation is difficult. Since Cam OG is on sale at the time of this writing, I’d probably be inclined to try that if I didn’t have previous experience with Wyze Cams.
