I understand Wyze needs to make sure the cameras have an internet connection, for whatever reason… I get it… but, now with RTSP, why do they still need to have an internet connection?
If I block internet connection on RTSP Wyze cameras, they become very unstable, disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes… Another user posted that RTSP cameras are doing that because they are constantly trying to connect to Wyze servers…but why?
One of the main reasons of RTSP is to NOT have to have them connected to the internet to make them more secure. I thought it was something wrong with my internet, until I found out that once I gave them access to the internet, the issues went away…once I block internet, the issues come back.
Why does Wyze need to have these RTSP cameras still connected to their servers?
In my experience, I’d say that even though RTSP is in use with the camera, it is still a Wyze Cam with all the normal Wyze camera functions which are very internet dependant so it still has to heartbeat out. RTSP is just an added function in addition to all the rest. Unlike the webcam firmware for the v2 which turns the camera into a webcam and only a webcam, and you loose all other functionality. This is my guess with my experience knowing how these cameras operate.
