Camera Doesn't stay where aimed

I found if you go to live streaming and hit settings then hit detection settings option then press on detection zone. Here is where you’ll see 4 dots in a diamond pattern. Use these to start moving your camera where you would like it return everytime then just back out and that’s it. It worked for me I kind of figured it out by trail and error.

I use ‘Detection Settings’ and set the place I want to view in the box. It never moves after that on either cam. Been working that, way since day 1, since June.

This!

For reference, center of cam motorized movement is with the micro USB plug inline with the lens, directly behind it. At least it is on all of mine. I imagine their quality control is good enough that others are also built this way.

Also, if your mount isn’t tight enough, it will come lose and you cam will spin on the mount, screwing up your base viewing zone. You’ll need to tighten it and reset it to ‘Zero’

Unfortunately, that’s not working for me. I had the detection zone off and then turned it back on and adjusted the zone. But it still goes off sometimes when it detects and follows motion. Sometimes it turns all the way and faces backwards, looking at my very uninteresting wall.

I checked the mount and the USB port is always at the same place, straight back towards the wall.

The only thing that helped somewhat was going into Advanced Settings → Motor Controls → Pan Scan Settings and making sure there was only one waypoint and it was set and saved to where I wanted “home” to be aiming at. That reduced how often I had to reposition the camera, but it still goes off several times per day, depending on the motion activity on the deck. I don’t turn on Pan Scanning, but, for some reason, the camera’s firmware uses it.

I have the same problem with mine regardless of detection zone, waypoints, etc. It always ends up facing the wall by the end of the day, sometimes just a few hours later. When it does that it doesn’t detect anything. I need the pan & motion detection capability otherwise I would have bought th stationary camera. Has Wyze ever fixed this issue? I see posts from years ago b

No fix that I know of. I put in a customer support ticket for this and after trying a bunch of different things, I still get times when the camera is pointing somewhere else, sometimes the wall. I believe this is a bug in their firmware and that the Wyze support group isn’t really there to solve those. They may help users understand how the camera and app are supposed to work, but nothing outside that. There may not be much communication between the Support and Engineering groups.

Thank you! I purchased several more. I’ll return them. I need a security camera that actually works.

You may want to consider using two fixed aim cameras (no panning) in place of a pan cam, mounted so that their fields of view overlap a little. No way points, No schedules.

Yep I just started getting this just right now actually. Came home and my Pan Cam has always been set in one location that I will pan myself if I have to. Now the thing won’t stop moving all over the place, despite having the Pan Scan off, Motion Tracking Off and Detection Zone Off in Settings. I’ve always had the motion tagger on and never had an issue, but now I can’t seem to stop the stupid thing from rotating and facing a closet door now with the Tagging being the only thing turned on.

Seemed there was an update today, but that didn’t do a single thing. I finally turned off the Motion Tagging and for now that seems to hold up, but will see tomorrow after I get home. But I’ve always had that on so I can see the little target boxes. So why now is that failing?

Guys. It’s not a bug. It’s not pan off nor tracking

It’s your detection zone settings on.
When you set your detection zone make sure which direction you want to monitor and of course adjust the green box. That set the camera monitoring area. The camera will move back to the area if the camera angle was changed

Actually it is a bug, at least partially. I’ve set the direction and detection zone to the smallest box practical. The problem is the box moves when the camera moves. So when the camera follows movement, the box moves with it and eventually gets to my back wall. It sees the IR reflection in the wall and “follows” that reflection until it’s pointing right at the wall. That’s not the bug, though. It’s just how the pan camera operates.

The bug happens when it follows movement, especially that extreme movement to the wall. It often forgets the original area it was pointing to and decides to point elsewhere, sometimes at that back wall. If I use the app to pan the camera, it will return back to that new position. I have to aim it where I want and reset the detection zone to get back to where it should be aiming at.

I’ve tried all sorts of things with detection zones, pan stops (even though I don’t have it scan), reloading firmware, clearing my app cache, … At this point I’ve given up and turned off motion following. It still does mostly what I want and covers a large enough area to be mostly useful.

I have the same issue…for a LOOOONG time!! The pan cams (all 4 in my home) have a mind of their own. I also have tried all sorts of things to resolve this issue, but so far nothing has worked except for manually resetting the detection zones. A bit tedious to do for 1 camera, let alone, 4 cameras and especially when it’s been a recurrent problem. The only thing that I didn’t do which you did, was clearing out the app cache (I don’t know how to do that and apparently it hasn’t resolved the matter at hand for you).

I came here today for the answer to this very question. However in reading through all the posts I did figure it out. If you go into your Camera back into the detection settings and then detection zone, at the bottom is a round circle and you can move the camera with that circle to where you want it to be and then close that area and it will save that setting. Worked for me

Seems like recent Firmware updates have started this problem for my recently purchased Pan Cams.
After reading this post, I determined the thing that worked was in Detection Settings, turn off Detection Zone. Changing the detection zone didn’t help, turning off motion detection didn’t help.
