Yes, you “should”. But the frame rate and compression used in these cameras results in poor quality footage, further compressed by Wyze online, as such you will unlikely see who stole it, plus the WiFi will cut out once the walk off with the camera.
I have no idea what delay, latency or buffer exists between data being recorded to then being uploaded to the cloud.
And you shouldn’t be limited to x days of recording. It should be limited to hours of storage. So maybe 30 days continuous recording or 12 months of event base recording, as an example…
This is one of the reasons I really despise the money grab manoeuvre. If you want money, then offer an actual competing product! Don’t cripple the 2nd & 3rd tabs - you can still do everything you “need” without plus upgrade.
But with little to no support, other than very dedicated CUSTOMERS on these forums, it really is self help. Customer service is slow and unhelpful - for free and paying customers!
I would avoid 24/7 recording. It will result in a lot of content to search through. Plus you can easily adjust hr sensitivity for sound and movement.
I find the pre-recording of each event satisfactory, eg. to see kids running up, into my garage, hiding behind boxes, then being found.
If not happy with the event based record then try 24/7 recoding.
PS. What is missing is a hybrid option that should be available for upgrade $$. Event Recording plus x days 24/7 recording. It would not be that hard to code so as to give customers best of both worlds!
Not sure what you mean by 24/7 recording results in a lot of content to search through. No… not really. It may be recording 24/7, but you still have “Event Notification” turned on. So… when you get a notification, it says say 6:04PM 03/24/2025 (or whatever the text says). You call up the camera or video (however you want to) and you simply SCROLL the video bar on the video to the 6 o’clock pm time and watch it. The event notification tells you when there was something to look at. Unless there’s some other reason you’re recording and wanting to watch in the future.
But you mentioned that the EVENT RECORDING was satisfactory. That’s why I mentioned that you don’t have to scroll through hours of video. The event still notifies you, and thus, you know where to scroll to. Only takes a second. Having 24/7 recording helps in many ways. If you have the detection zone set for say just your “Front Porch”, the event won’t start recording until they go on the front porch. But with the continuous recording, you can scroll back and possibly see the individual or situation minutes before the actual event. e.g. walking around your driveway and scoping the house out; looking in a window; etc. depends on how/where you have your camera set up and the detection zone set up.
In the past, I didn’t use continuous recording much. Not because it wasn’t useful, but because I only turned the cameras on for a couple hours here and there when I left and came back. But a change in life; more time away, pets, etc… have made it where continuous recording (only when I’m gone) is actually more useful now than just events. I can see 1, 2, 5, 10, 15 minutes before and after the event.
I don’t know if you understood my previous response to this idea; if there are a lot of events, this is practically useless if you have no subscription.
Because you won’t receive notifications for many events and you therefore have to search through lots of SD card footage recorded 24X7.
I guess the way I see it… People who have Wyze cameras for their security, are NOT the type of people who go out and steal OTHER PEOPLE’s wyze cameras, so they can put them on THEIR ACCOUNT??? That doesn’t even seem logical. And the bad guy (The Prick who stole your camera), they will simply remove the sd card, see what’s on it, erase it to get rid of evidence, and keep the card for their own use.
They most likely didn’t steal the camera because they are a wyze customer and wanted another camera. They wanted to eliminate any evidence of them being there at your location.
I still don’t see your logic. Why do you go back and look at footage??? Because something happened that you want more information about. Whether you have a subscription and get immediate event notifications; or you don’t have a subscription and your event notifications are limited to no more than every 5 minutes… the point is, no matter WHAT METHOD of notifications you use, you can easily see (BASED on the notification) when the even happened that makes you want to go look at the video. And the event will tell you time/date of where to look on the timeline.
What you’re saying does provide a reason why you SHOULD GET a subscription. (So you get constant and immediate notifications without the 5 minute cool down). But what you’re saying has no reasoning for using or not using continuous recording.
I don’t look at the videos just because I got a notification. I look at videos because I need more information. 99.99% of all events are “logical”. I get notified, I look at the text, I see a picture of the mailman or amazon, or kid playing, or whatever. That’s it. I don’t go scrolling through and looking at the video. Why would I. I have much better things to do with my life. But… If I get a notification at 1:00am, or in the back yard (that is gated and locked), or some other suspicious notification, then I know EXACTLY where and when to look at the video. Doesn’t take any time to get there. The event notification told me what time to look at on my phone. I don’t take the sd card out of the cameras and put them on a computer. Not unless I had a burglary or break in and I want to make copies of the video to share with the police and to keep a backup of. So with an event notification (No matter with or without a subscription) finding the exact time on the video is a breeze.
This is just one example; I can throw a stick and trigger an event, then I have 5 minutes to break in, grab things and get out quick. No event would be triggered. It’s there on the SD card but you wouldn’t know it.
Why not keep the camera, have it activated and get rid of the evidence on the cloud as well. I think you are overthinking it. As I said, not being able to remove individual cameras from the subscription and loosing the cloud storage if the camera gets activated under different account were the two reasons I cancelled my subscription.
Again… your point is a GREAT POINT for promoting and getting the Cam Plus service. Excellent reasoning. NOT excellent reasoning against doing 24/7 continuous recording.
With the service you will see the NUMEROUS and IMMEDIATE notifications. You will see the person throw the stick and then come into the area and break in or do whatever. And each of those notifications is TIME STAMPED. Finding where in the video it is, is a breeze. You know the exact time to look at.
Again; you make a compelling case for why MAYBE I should get Cam Plus service. (For the continuous and immediate notifications without the 5 minute cool down). But everything about NOT doing continuous 24/7 recording… sorry… no logic there at all.
Yeah, it worked catching this perv Church Pastor breaking into a house and checking out a teen girl’s living area. Surprise, a camera.
News Video was in the New York Post.
You’re saying that you can do “Continuous Recording” without subscription AND without having to browse through the recorded footage. I’m not asking people to subscribe.
All I’m saying is that with missing notifications (due to cooldown), you’re going to miss important segments of the SD card footage, unless you browse through all the footage. Can’t escape that.
Compare that with “Events Only” recording, where you can skip forward and back to the next “event”.
If you have a subscription, either “Continuous” or “Events Only” recording is fine.
Ok, and I guess this will be the last time I explain it. Then, we both can move on with life.
You’re going to have the EXACT SAME AMOUNT OF EVENTS whether you do continuous recording or event only recording. THUS, knowing WHERE to LOOK for the portion of the video you want, WILL BE ANNOTATED in the time stamp. You do NOT have to look through ALL of the footage.
IF you have a subscription, then there is NO COOL DOWN period. Thus, you will NOT miss any important notifications, And again, you will NOT have to look through the entire footage because the notification will tell you based on the time stamp WHERE TO LOOK.
FINALLY: If there are 5 events (Whether WITH or WITHOUT a cool down), there is STILL 5 events. Each event WILL have a TIME STAMP. You will know where in the video to find what you’re looking for. The video has time on it. You don’t have to look through the entire video to find what you’re looking for.
However: The advantage of the continuous recording is… You can see what’s happening BEFORE and AFTER the actual event. Whether it’s an event with 5 minute cool down or it’s an event via subscription with no 5 minute cool down.
There is absolutely no down side to recording continuously IF you’re wanting to go back and look at an event. You can click on the event and you can see ALL of the video footage BEFORE and AFTER the event. Vs JUST the event and not seeing the footage 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 minutes BEFORE the event happened.
There is no browsing through all the footage. The events tell you WHEN and WHERE to look
You are giving an intruder too much credit. I highly doubt that someone came to your house SPECIFICALLY just to steal your Wyze camera. They most likely came to break in and steal REAL STUFF. Stuff worth more than the $30 Wyze camera.
Assuming they even saw the camera; they will either a) LEAVE and NOT break in or continue with their crime because they saw the camera; or b) they will unplug the camera; or cover the camera; or take the camera with them.
If they take the camera with them, I REALLY DOUBT they are going to set up a Wyze account so they can delete the video from the cloud storage. If they were that smart, they probably wouldn’t be breaking in. Hell, they probably don’t even know that there’s an SD Card in the camera initially. They probably think like in the movies, it’s a CCTV camera. Cover it or break it and no more Feed.
No; I am not over thinking this. I don’t think someone who is trying to commit a crime on/in your property; and should they discover the camera; is going to be clever enough to build an account and think through erasing the sd card and cloud storage.
As for you wanting to be able to cancel subscriptions, you can if you don’t get the unlimited service. You can have up to 3 cameras on the individual Cam Plus service, and you CAN cancel any of those 3 INDIVIDUALLY. Now… if you have 5, 7, 8, 10 cameras… then yes, there’s issues with canceling individual cameras. But not for 3. And depending on your needs, most people probably don’t need all their cameras on cloud storage. But that’s an individual need. For me, at the very most, I would need 3 cameras. Probably only 1 or 2. So if I do decide to get the Cam Plus service for each of those 1, 2, or 3 cameras, I can cancel the service at any time and delete the cameras. But I’m not worried about someone breaking into my house thinking that deep that they are going to build an account and register the camera on their account so they can delete cloud footage. I don’t give them that much credit.
That not all of those recorded SD footage will have notifications, is the point I’m making. To see those SD segments that were not flagged by notification, you will need to browse the SD footage.
If you don’t understand that statement, nothing else will convince you.
I will say that I agree with you that “IF” I have the Cam Plus service, and there are no cool down period between event recordings, then there isn’t a need to do continuous recording because all the events are recorded without any breaks in between. You simply click on the main event. I get that. I concede. No need for the continuous recording.
My contention however that the advantage of continuous recording, EVEN IF you have the cam plus service with no cool down in between events is: You can see what happened BEFORE the actual event. Especially if you have very tight Detection Zones set up. You can possibly see the intruder BEFORE he entered the detection zone and triggered the event to record. You can see him scoping out the place.
We are talking about 2 different things here. 1) Paying for the Cam Plus service and not having 5 minute cool downs between event recordings; and 2) Continuous recording. (Which I believe is beneficial whether your events are recorded with or without a cool down period).
