I agree with you, the AI is a joke. I really only got Cam+ because I wanted the longer recording time. I wish Wyze would offer just that feature for less money, because I’m clearly not getting the features that they advertise. It’s been how many years now and the AI still doesn’t work as all their promotional information claims it does.
I don’t use the automatic pan function/motion tracking piece. I manually move it to look around my place during/after a storm. I get less alerts like you are mentioning, but I certainly have received alerts like the ones you describe.
I think that is why people buy wyze plugs – to cycle them.
I have had plugs go offline, however, so that won’t be a terrific solution – think it can introduce other issues.
Some say they have the Wyze plugs connected to a UPS, and the cameras to the wyze plugs. But if upstream ISP kills internet connection and it comes back on with new DHCP lease, not sure what that will do.
I would not call it a joke personally – I have one pointing at my car parked in my driveway. There are 300 motion events easy per day. I select person and there are only 25 or so.
I think the night vision on the v1 cameras were not great compared to Wyze Cam v3 and Cam OG. Why anyone would still use those old ones and a cam pan v1 is beyond me.
I looked at the settings for the v3 camera since my last reply, and realize that the camera will trigger on any motion, not just the ones you select to identify (e.g., “person”). However, it will tag the video as “person” if enabled to do so so you can filter by person. Personally, I am not crazy about that design. I would rather motion detection only trigger a recording if a person is detected, which is how I thought it worked. The AI detection also identifies my car as a person sometimes, which I find amusing but not helpful (some cars actually look like people from the front perspective, but their size proportions should exclude them as a person). Hope this helps.
The tagged objects arnt necessarily the detected motion. The camera detects any pixel change that breaks the threshold of your sensitivity and detection settings. Then uploads the event to the cloud. Once in the cloud the AI analysis the video for any recognized objects, moving or stationary, then tags the video as such.
I totally agree that this isn’t going to help the use case and wants of the high majority, but it is the way the cloud ai currently works with the v3.
In your case of your “tractor alerts”, what was the pixel change or motion somewhere in the clip? You can turn on motion tagging to see what the camera detects as “motion”.
I would love that as well, as it would save a ton of server space on Wyzes end and lessen data being sent over the airwaves. But for this to happen, the ai or processing would need to be in the camera itself, which is is not. The camera only sees pixel change (actual motion, lighting changes, etc), once the video makes it to the cloud, that is where the person, vehicle, pet, package comes into play.
As someone who lives out in the country, I need more than just person detection. The problem is, I get tons of alerts from a shadow from a waving tree, a moth, rain, but never from my chickens when they are free ranging. Weird that it will identify a freaking pine tree as a “pet”, but not a flock of chickens doing chicken stuff…or the predators that occasionally get one.
Small bugs. Slightly larger than a gnat. I have a triagle reflector on the back of the tractor. The V3 camera has a spotlight installed. Small bug flies by, triggers the camera, spotlight comes on, and I get an alert of a vehicle. I had 8 alerts in an hour for this.
I have alert for “person” and it’s detected a leaf on a bush. I live on 10 acres, fenced in, with a driveway gate. Imagine getting an alert of “person” at your back porch, SEVERAL times, and its a freaking leaf on a bush, or just nothing.
That’s a perfect example why then AI is a joke.

Sounds like the camera is correctly triggering to pixel change that is being detected. That’s a bummer that it’s bugs that are triggering the motion detection. What are your sensitivity settings? Tried turning the motion sensitivity down a small bit so that it hopefully doesn’t detect the small bugs doing a flyby? Have you tried using a camera with a PIR detection system, as opposed to a pixel based that you have right now?
Able to post a picture/video of this for us to see? What else is in the frame?
Bugs trigger many of my cameras, yet the AI doesn’t label them as bugs and doesn’t label them at all.
I gave up with AI … it seemed I got less notifications and events when I had them enabled. I get more feedback having just sound and motion on … and detection zone set.
I just purchased just five new OG cameras. I just set three of them up in my property in Los Angeles, and I am flying abroad to replace two older ones with OG cameras.
My set up experience was terrific. I love that you don’t need to hold the phone up next to the camera anymore. And have it focus on a QR code.
I was able to quickly add it to my cam, plus annual subscription, and share it with my wife.
I started receiving motion and sound alerts almost immediately. I have course did the firmware upgrade when prompted.
I then went into the event recording settings and left everything the way it was.
I then went into notification settings, turned off notifications for sound, motion, But selected person updates only then rebooted the camera by unplugging it, and moving it to its new location, such as outside, overlooking the pool, or my home office security door.
They’ve been running for five hours, and I have only received notifications for when a person has either walked by a room or entered a room or walked anywhere that the camera can see.
This has been my experience with the V3 and OG cameras. I have about 12 others and everything seems to just work on the newer cameras that I own.
Overseas I will be replacing the pan and scan V2 with the nonmoving OG. I feel they are superior devices until the other pan and scan devices are less buggy, I will update them later.
On boarding these new cameras is smooth as butter. Making adjustments to the settings. Once you have done it a few times becomes very simple and fast as well.
I’m sure I’ll find something to complain about later, but for now they really work good.
The AI on any of these cameras is terrible. Front camera V3 dectects people as cars and my back camera OG detects my dogs as people. Yes, many, many, many submissions. It just doesn’t make a difference. Extremely frustrating!!!
I have the same experience often with the AI. It will rarely seen the dog a person is walking, even a big dog. A lot of the times it calls tree branches and shadows a person, especially spider webs. The only thing it seems to be good at is detecting vehicles, mostly parked vehicles. And could I care less about parked vehicles.
Its an AI false positive. That exists in all AI. I have a cam from another company and when there’s lightning, it may record and say a car is a person. It can sometimes do that with animals too.
Of course, each and every AI based software is going to have higher or lower false positives. AI’s are just software that takes in something and spits something out wrong or right.
