This feature previously worked fine but a few weeks ago it stopped working properly and it has taken me till now to figure out what is going on.
The automation causing the issue is a simple one.
When Camera A detects motion turn on Wyze Plug A for 30 minutes.
Previously it would stay on until there was no motion in the room for about 30 minutes.
Now after 30 minutes it turns off regardless of there being more motion events since the original event and even shows these events in the automation log.
If I manually turn on Plug A it will turn off at 30 minutes past when the second motion event was logged. This makes the feature useless in about every scenario I can think of.
Any thoughts on how I can correct this issue or any idea when this bug will be fixed?
I don’t have a direct answer for your question, but I appreciate the detail you provided regarding the problem description and the testing you’ve done. Since you describe the experience as a bug, I think providing model and firmware versions (for the camera and plug you’re using) and your app version might be helpful to the community.
If you haven’t already done so, I’d also consider reproducing this issue and then submitting a log via the app. Once you have the Log ID, I think it’s a good idea to follow that up by opening a Support ticket for two reasons:
Logs submitted without additional detail may not be directly addressed by the engineers: If they don’t have an associated problem to resolve, then they might not know what to do with the log.
Although Support will tell you that they can’t access the log, having an open ticket gives you a means to provide further detail about the problem that can be passed along to the engineers.
Are you still experiencing this issue? I haven’t seen it before, though I haven’t attempted to test the specific scenario you described.
I was running current versions on everything involved. I have tested this again recently and the issue still persists. It is a very easy issue to demonstrate and test with the info I have already given. I am not going to jump through hoops to generate a bunch of documentation on the issue as it is much easier for me to just use another product to achieve this.
The “turn on for X time” action is currently broken on the server resulting in unpredictable behavior. Wyze is aware of this issue and working on a fix. In the meantime, if you’re looking for a temporary solution, please read the following:
I don’t doubt that it’s reproducible. Wyze has released three different models of Plug, though, and they have multiple camera models, so I still don’t know what your exact testing conditions are because I don’t have that specific information.
That’s absolutely fair! We all have our limits, and I hope you’ve found a solution that works for you.
