Apple announced during their keynote that they will allow up to 10 days worth of video recordings to your iCloud account at no extra cost and that it would not take away from your storage space. They said that on stage during the HomeKit Security Camera portion.
At no EXTRA cost…as long as you have the 200 GB plan ($3/month). Then you can have a single camera. You can have up to 5 cameras with the 2TB plan ($10/month).
EXTRA is the key word. There is a cost.
I need to look around to find out if the 5 camera limit is per user on a family account or total.
The release of Wyze Sense increased the value of HomeKit for me (especially as the future of SmartThings becomes, well, increasingly unclear.) The camera and storage announcements at WWDC push it over the “must have “ line IMO - it would make Wyze cameras extremely price/feature competitive.
Does anyone know if you can run it through Homebridge? This could be a stopgap until it’s eventually integrated…
This is big news. I had been patiently waiting for Wyze to become Homekit compatible but didn’t really have a motivating reason to care much, now I surely do. I would hope a timeline will be announced now before I get impatient!
Integration with the coming HomeKit Secure Video would be a big win for Wyze and for us! Please support this!
HomeKit will be working security at ones router along with camera privacy. I do use local storage, however I believe HomeKit integration would make Wyze even more secure. Thx for your continued consideration.
Best Regards,
Greg
Yes, please can we get some insight on the new Homekit features and if they are likely to be integrated? I currently only have 1 Wyze cam but I am waiting to buy a whole lot more to cover the house. I can’t do that until we have some certainty around Homekit support.
You said this well, I would buy 3-5 more of these the second they confirm exterior pan cam & HomeKit support.
It is per account.
I vote for HomeKit integration being an increased priority…
Well said. Key words being,”INCREASED PRIORITY”.
You can download the beta rtsp firmware and use homebridge. I have my cam v2 up and running in home.app with this method.
10000000% on my wish list HomeKit
+1 for Homekit support. I purchased 2 Wyzecams last year, but I’m holding off on expansion (like adding Pan) until HomeKit support is included. Apple really opened up options in iOS 11. Wyze — what’s the delay?
I think a formal statement on Wyze plans for HomeKit should be made by now. Haven’t we shown enough interest here in this thread?
Additionally, with iOS announced June 2019 and shipping this Autumn, there’s HomeKit Secure Video which provides user privacy and free encrypted hosting on iCloud.
iOS still doesn’t have a worthy iPad app that rotates properly.
Honestly, if plans for HomeKit aren’t announced soon, I’m going to start looking for other solutions. My investment in Wyze isn’t worth keeping without some better software.
It’s not free. It’s “at no additional cost”. It requires paying $3/month for 1 camera, or $10/month for up to 5 cameras.
Correct. I already have a 200GB/month iCloud plan. So I get a camera for free. And it does not count against one’s storage.
from this article.
"For one Secure Video camera, a 200GB iCloud storage plan is required, while you need the 2TB plan for up to 5 cameras. In the United States, 200GB of storage is priced at $2.99 per month, while 2TB of storage is priced at $9.99 per month.
Many camera companies that offer cloud storage do charge monthly fees for data access, so Apple’s decision to require a $2.99 to $9.99 per month fee isn’t a major surprise, and a lot more utility is provided with an Apple iCloud storage plan than one from Logitech or Eufy."
At first, I was excited. Then I read this from the HomeKit Secure Video announcement:
"With HomeKit Secure Video, the video captured by your camera is analyzed locally on your resident iPad, HomePod or AppleTV. Then, it’s encrypted and sent to iCloud where no one (not even Apple) can see it.
You’ll be alerted if your camera sees activity and 10 days of video storage are included without counting against your storage. The first cameras to include this feature will be Netatmo, Logitech and Eufy."
You only get 10 days of storage! Not the long term solution I was looking for!
But what I found really interesting, was when I read the reviews of the first three cameras brands to include the feature, I was less than impressed …
I’m not going to be an early adopter of Homekit Secure Video. And since the first three camera brands to “include” the feature are 15 times more expensive than WYZE, I’m not sure WYZE can provide the service at the current price point.
But, for those of you who are saying you won’t continue to buy or use WYZE without it, it sounds like there are other brands for you to look into so that you can use HomeKit Secure Video.
