Apple HomeKit Integration

I’m simply stating facts, based on what was announced, and, current pricing. Of course things can change. I’m not making any claims. Just re-stating what Apple has said.

Apple is doing what a lot of companies do. Adding more value to a service. Companies typically don’t give you more, then lower the cost. They try to get more people to pay the higher cost, for the added benefits.
To say that it will cost less than what was announced? That would be made up.

Not really. Parts of what you said made it sound at times as though there was a charge to use iCloud. I just wanted to be more specific that there was no charge to use iCloud (as the 5GB account is free) but that as far as HomeKit Secure Video was concerned, that there was going to be a charge (as you mentioned) if the person just had a basic iCloud account. We agree on this. I was just being more specific so that if someone wasn’t familiar with iCloud that they didn’t think it cost money to open up a iCloud account

Correct, because that is all that would be needed. This is a direct quote per Apple from the Apple Keynote: “Now, we’ve always supported hardware-based authentication, but we have also recently began supporting software-based authentication. Now, customers can be guaranteed the same level of quality and trust, and the integration support can be rolled out via a firmware update. Now, this is great because this means you can roll out HomeKit to accessories that are already shipping to customers.”

Where? All I saw was their post stating "we have completed the analysis for cameras and determined that we will not be able to bring HomeKit to the current generation of our products (Cam v1 & v2 and Pan).

We recognize the privacy and security that HomeKit Secure Video provides to Apple customers and are excited about potential integration with our future products using local processing. We will investigate how to bring HomeKit to future versions of those devices and share more details when available."

No mention of a firmware update “not being enough” as you referred to. Their waiting for the next gen of product could have easily been referring to the MFi registration process.

Apple is famous for charging a lot when they first roll something out, and then reducing the price later. I had iOS training yesterday and they alluded to this, so I will add more storage to my iCloud account at that time.

You keep missing this point. Just because Apple says something one day doesn’t mean jack as far as what will actually happen. They typically leave a 6 month period of time between when they make an announcement and when they actually release something for a reason! And yes, Apple lowers the price on products all the time. In 2015 the 200GB plan was 4 bucks a month, now it’s 2.99. In 2017 Apple cut the cost of its 2TB iCloud storage plan in half — from $19.99 a month to $9.99.

What they charge for iCloud plans at the end of this year no one knows - except Apple.

Exactly, do we remember AirPower

Again…you said I was making stuff up. I’m going with the facts. As they are today. Might they change…someday? Yes. But, not before launch. Apple is bigly into services these days. They are adding benefits to their higher priced services to get their customers to pay for them. And, you know what? It will work. At least for a few years. People will pay for the higher priced iCloud storage plans…even though they don’t need more storage.
You said it might not have additional costs associated with it. I never said it would. However, it will have a monthly cost associated with it. As I’ve always said.
Even for those who already subscribe to the bigger storage plans. It is a monthly cost. That was the clever way Apple marketed the service…”at no additional cost”. Which implies, there is a cost…it just won’t increase.
I never “made things up”, as you claimed.
Be best!

This will launch within the next 3 months.

Wow! The more I read your posts…
I never said there was not a free iCloud storage plan. I just re-stated what Apple said.
This service will not be included with the free plan. That…I guarantee!

“I was just being more specific so that if someone wasn’t familiar with iCloud that they didn’t think it cost money to open up a iCloud account”…really? You thought this thread was about iCloud plans?
No. You knew what I was saying. You are just trying (really hard) to twist things around so that you can not sound so wrong.
Be best.

Again, you don’t know this.

Again, you don’t know this.

Where, exactly, did I say that?

Also, are you ever going to tell everyone where Wyze supposedly said that they had a “hardware” issue with HomeKit?

Are you even serious!?

Your own words…
Wow! I’m speechless!

And then…and then, you try to change the subject to something that I said about hardware…

Bye…for real…bye.
:joy:

Any interest in just Apple TV App to view the camera feeds without HomeKit Integrations? The only feature I really care about myself.

@dfcrichardson @gregmelanson @matt6

There’s a separate Wishlist topic for just that:

PLEASE get Wyze Bulbs to work with HomeKit! If nothing else…the bulbs!

+1
It would be great to at least see contact sensor status in the Apple Home and create automations from it.

I don’t really care about using HomeKit for video but it would be nice to control the cameras. Like enabling and disabling them when I leave or arrive home. And maybe get motion and sound events out of the cameras too.

I’d replace all my wyze stuff if new products had homekit compatibility.
