Wyze has been a straightforward company from the beginning. They have turnegd down significant investors due to the fact they would of changed the core values of wyze, and the value they are trying to offer their customers. Development sucks, and partnerships suck sometimes also. They always have seemed to do the right thing. Give them a chance to get their bearings before we grab the pitchforks and torches. I too am not happy, as the person detection totally changed the way I use and depend on my cameras. And I purchased a lot more because of it. But as we all know there was room for improvement. This could be a blessing in disguise.
that would make no sense at all when it is already in the last phase of beta testing
Besides, it would probably melt the plastic!
@bb-Mitch, wanna send me a private message? Since we’re already working on something, I don’t know if we’re looking for other solutions but I’m happy to pass things over to the team for consideration. ![]()
For those who are frustrated, we hear and understand you. You may want to contact our customer support team.
so then cmc free to all until person detection is back … fair is fair .
I don’t know if this has already been suggested as a way to help lessen the pain of (temporarily) losing Person Detection.
One primary problem people experience without Person Detection are undesired triggers from brief motion in the detection window. Perhaps if there was an added setting to go with Motion Detection to allow us to set a threshold of time of motion before the event is triggered. There may be cases where requiring several seconds of continuous motion would avoid some of the false positives. I would recommend making this time variable though so it could be set to individual tastes via the app. I never quite understood what the sensitivity setting does now, but perhaps it already does this in a less direct way.
I know Wyze is working hard to continuously improve its product offerings. Yes I will miss Person Detection while it is gone, but I appreciate the clear communication from Wyze on the topic.
Any idea how long until person detection will make a return after getting removed in January?
I’m sorry, I don’t know how long the wait time will be. I know we’re working hard to minimize it but I don’t have an estimate at this point.
I agree. That has already been a wishlist item for a while, and I made the same suggestion here. Be sure to go over and vote for that item, if you haven’t already. It seems like that should be fairly easy to implement, so I’m hopeful that they’ll do it before the next update, in order to help bridge the gap.
I’m guessing the existing sensitivity setting has more to do with the amount of movement (pixel difference) than the time. But both are useful. ![]()
Coming from a security cam background one thing that would help is if we could set the size of the object detected. Crank up sensitivity by also make the object larger would help.
I’m sorry I know this is my first post and I may not be contributing much by saying this but your transparency and approach to solving this issue for our benefit is extremely refreshing. I’ve only had one of my Wyze cams installed since friday and the other less than 24 hours. I’ve always believed that with most things there are less expensive high quality products that are the same or higher quality then the competition. I could not be happier that that I have found Wyze. Unfortunately I have a couple more Cameras to install but it started raining moments after I finished yesterday’s install and it hasn’t stopped. LOL
Welcome to the forums! Yeah, I think a lot of us feel the same way. I think that’s part of the reason they have such a diehard following, Haha
This is unacceptable. Wyze needs to renegotiate a deal until they can implement their own solution. You don’t offer you customers features and them strip them away because you made a bad contract decision. Own up to it and get a deal to temporarily let your customers use this feature until you have a solution
Thank you for the update. I appreciate the heads up before it just disappears. I am excited for hopefully even a better version.
I doubt WYZE will be able to renegotiate a deal since the other company is the one who wanted out of it. Almost every item of tech I have purchased has had features stripped away. Lowe’s IRIS security system completely shut down. SmartThings removed features the ‘classic’ app had when they made the new app. Google Nest has removed the Works with Nest API, so unfortunately that is commonplace. At least WYZE is coming out with their own and the feature will return.
I think jjb1’s argument goes like this:
Since Xnor.ai unexpectedly wanted out of the contract, Wyze should be allowed to negotiate a grace period for continued use of the library while they develop a replacement.
Well, I totally support the fact that you want to improve and make it do what it is supposed to do. It is the main reason I have not bought more cameras, yet. I look forward to “OUR” future.
Quick question born out of frustration. I can’t remember the path to have it do continual recording. Can someone give me the short cut?
Have had the SD card in since I purchased the camera. Have had continuous recording in the past but had changed it. I followed the steps but it keeps saying that the operation has failed. Do I seriously need to be formatted again?
Personally, I’ve never cared that much about person detection vs other bread & butter features (expanded shortcut actions, fully developed scheduler, etc.) and bug fixes (dimmed playback is still with us). Neither do I crave another recurring monthly bill in my life (CMC).
All of that said, I still believe this might be the cleanest solution to it all. Person detection processing & continuous recording remain on the same local LAN as the cams themselves. Another advantage is that it might limit future firmware upgrade needs to the DVR hub itself for new feature rollouts… as opposed to the need to upgrade each individual cam.
