Add More Triggers for Wyze Automations (Rules)

We need this. It can be more precise and faster to detect than geofencing with actual GPS position. Plus it gives you more control over your data, since you don’t need to always share your location with WYZE.

Super disappointed that the wyze lock doesn’t have any distinction between a manual and remote lock in rule actions despite it showing the difference in the logs. Can this please be added as has been mentioned earlier I the thread several times?

I’d love the wyze lock keypad (at least) to be distinguished from a manual lock / unlock to let my kids arm and disarm the alarm before entering the home without giving them a phone with wyze app.

I want to know my kids are safely home via a code rather than a burglar manually unlocking it and disarming my wyze home security

I believe you can set a unique code for each person in keypad settings. The app will show who unlocked the door. With the Wyze watch you can get notified on the watch as to who unlocked the door.

Thanks Spidey. Unfortunately I can’t use that information on a rule as a trigger though (other than a broad “locked” or “unlocked”)…which is what I’m looking for. A simple manual vs remote lock/unlock would be sufficient for me but could imagine how custom behavior for different code (i.e. people) would be amazing.

Simple new Wyze rule triggers for Wyze Lock to differentiate lock/unlock source

The Wyze App shows the Wyze Lock history indicating if it was locked remotely (and by who either via 1) the app or 2) keypad code assignments) or manually.

This information is already available, so why can’t it be used to trigger rules.

Now, I suggest adding triggers for “locked”/“unlocked” for each of the following “by method” that don’t conflict with the existing “locked”/“unlocked” ones but complement them with more specific things that are easy to set up.

locked/unlocked by method
2) keypad
3) app (self explanatory)
4) auto (via auto-lock/unlock settings)
5) manual (turn bolt manually or key is used on other side. Don’t think these are distinguishable by Wyze. If they are distinguishable, then I’d make the key be “key” method)

I recognize there are lots of requests for new Wyze rule triggers (see: Add More Triggers for Wyze Rules - #208 by nixhome2020) and that this has been mentioned and requested. However, it’s buried by other wishes.
I also recognize you don’t want to code something that isn’t flexible enough for future use or overlaps/conflicts with previous triggers. I believe this request is simple and fits with whatever future plans Wyze has. “keypad/app/auto/manual” unlock/lock also seem to be the most requested Wyze Lock triggers.

Use-cases taken from my and other user’s requests:

I realize that this doesn’t solve everything for everyone WRT Wyze Lock triggers but other requests such as unlocked remotely by a specific person could be added at a later date. Same with lock timing triggers.

Please consider this proposal. Thank you!

Wyze Cam - Detects garage door was opened

Is most important to me.

Adding a scheduling feature for activating and deactivating night vision on Wyze cameras would greatly enhance their utility and user experience. Here are the key benefits:

  1. Automated Convenience: Users can set schedules for night vision to automatically turn on or off at specific times, such as sunset and sunrise. This automation eliminates the need for manual intervention, ensuring the camera is always in the optimal mode for the current lighting conditions.

  2. Improved Security during Critical Hours: Scheduling night vision can enhance security during the most vulnerable times, such as nighttime, by ensuring the camera is always ready to capture clear images in low-light conditions.

  3. Energy Efficiency: By only activating night vision when necessary, this feature can help save energy, which is both cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

  4. Reduction in False Alarms: Night vision can sometimes cause false alerts due to insects or other small animals. Scheduling its activation can minimize these false alarms, especially during hours when they are more prevalent.

  5. Customization for Lifestyle and Needs: Users can customize the activation schedule based on their lifestyle or security needs, such as activating night vision when they are away or asleep.

  6. Adaptation to Seasonal Changes: The ability to schedule based on times allows the camera to adapt to seasonal changes in daylight, ensuring consistent performance year-round.

  7. Integration with Smart Home Systems: This feature could potentially be integrated with other smart home systems, allowing for more complex triggers, like activating night vision when the system detects that the house is empty.

Overall, a scheduling feature for night vision would make Wyze cameras more adaptive, energy-efficient, and user-friendly, aligning them with the evolving needs and expectations of smart home technology users.

Rules based on Garage Door open/close status

I have the GDC. Works great for me and I like what I can do with it, but of late I have had a couple of ideas of things it would be nice to be able to do, revolving around when the garage doors is opened or closed. It looks to me that I cannot trigger a rule based on the garage door being opened or closed.

Namely, I would like to build a rule to turn on my outdoor Wyze floodlight when I open the garage door. Say it’s after dark and I arrive home - I hit my garage door remote control button in the car - I’d like to have that action trigger my floodlight to turn on (yes the motion sensor should catch the movement of my vehicle coming up the driveway but it doesn’t always.) Likewise, suppose I am inside my garage, it’s dark outside, and I open the garage door - I’d like to have that trigger the floodlight to turn on automatically, before I step out and trigger the floodlight with motion.

I can think of another cool use case - if I were to install a Wyze switch on my garage ceiling lights, then I’d love to set up a rule such that when I open the garage door, Wyze turns on the lights on my garage ceiling. Here again, this would best fit the arriving home after dark scenario. My habit right now is to just leave the garage lights on, but I’d rather not have to do it that way and have them come on automatically upon arrival based on opening the garage door.

The new app launching today (1/25/24) includes interactive widgets for rule shortcuts to sit on out phone home screen, which is awesome.

However, the Garage Door Controller still only has a rule for closing the garage, so people still can’t make a widget or shortcut for opening the garage, so it is currently really cumbersome and annoying to be able to do this (you have to unlock your phone, then open the app, then open the camera, then toggle the garage open. That feels annoying to most people. If the open garage rule was added, people could finally use a widget now.

I agree. Its not a user friendly experience to try to open the garage door with the app while coming home on a bike for example. At least to be able to move the controller button to the left side of the screen would help.

Actually realized now that closing and opening the garage is the same action on my device. So using the Close garage rule works for me in both cases. If the garage is closed when I press close garage rule it will open.

Can you expand on that? I just tried it on mine and it’s not working. It’s actually not designed to work that way so if there’s a bug you may have found a really good one.

How exactly is your rule set up? And how do you execute it?

Yeah, good call. I wonder the same thing. If the QR code is mounted on the garage door and everything is properly calibrated, then when you trigger a rule that closes the garage door, and Wyze already know the garage door is closed, it should simply do nothing. A rule to close the garage door will only work to open the garage door if Wyze doesn’t know that the door is closed.

Yes I think I wrote too soon after just testing it out but after trying to use it for a couple of days I realized it had flaws.
I dont know if there is something wrong in my setup but I have the QR code installed correctly and its possible to run the Close garage door rule when the garage door is closed. It starts to blink/make a sound and then triggers the switch that opens the door. But then after 5-10s it realizes the door is open (baecause of the qr-code) and automatically closes it again, but by then I am arealdy in the garage so thats fine but not perfect.

Sorry, it seems its not working now. I must have been something that blocked the qr-code when I tested before, perhaps the roof box I had on the car temporarly.

What I did though, to save one step, is to add the widget for the camera (device widget) so that when I click on that I come directly to the camera instead of having to open the app and then click on the camera.

Garage Door Controller - FLASH WYZE BULBS

Flash wyze color bulbs for open and close modes of garage door controller. Be able to assign multiple openers to one bulb. Allow continuous pulsing if left open or fixed number of pulses.

Floodlight V1 has an action for, “Turn on Floodlight for xx (minutes)”. There’s no equivalent action for floodlight V2 nor floodlight pro.

Floodlightv1, OG, V3 Pro, and V4 at a minimum have this option, but not the Floodlight v2. Very annoying.

A post was merged into an existing topic: Add More Actions for Wyze Rules

How come there is no “flood light on for” in automations for Floodlight Pro? The light will stay on all the time unless I manually turn it off in the app. All of the other cams you can set a timer after it makes the detection except for this floodlight. I had just posted this exact thing on the Facebook forum
