Here’s an interesting twist to this discussion.
State sells your data but protects names of those who misuse it.
and there’s this:
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) legally sells personal information from driver licenses and vehicle registrations to third-party entities. This practice has generated nearly $490 million for the state over the last 15 years. Why/who is this legal? Because the state legislature makes it legal, regardless of the common sense that citizens would use to protect themselves.
Information Sold: Data includes names, addresses, dates of birth, driver license numbers, vehicle information, and crash records.
Buyers: The state sells this data in bulk to data brokers, insurance companies, marketing firms, and private investigators.
Legal Basis: These sales are authorized under the federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) of 1994, which allows states to share data for “permissible uses” like insurance underwriting, background checks, and fraud prevention.
No Opt-Out: Currently, Florida law does not allow residents to opt out of these data sales.
Legislative Efforts to Stop the Practice
In late 2025, Representative Peggy Gossett-Seidman filed House Bill 357 (also known as the Motor Vehicle Operator Privacy Act), which aims to:
Ban all commercial sales of driver information to third parties.
Prohibit foreign entities from accessing Florida driver records.
Require written consent for any non-law-enforcement data sharing.
If passed, this law is currently projected to take effect on July 1, 2026. Until then, residents can only partially protect their privacy by using a separate mailing address (like a P.O. Box), as the state’s privacy protections typically only apply to residential addresses in its records.
How does any of that apply to WYZE in any way shape or form?
This thread is in the watercooler section. It general civilized conversation. This tread is talking in general what government is doing to us. Remember, the government that lives next door to you and goes to your school and Starbucks. And is our right because we have the freedom to do so, you can browse right past this thread, or stay and visit. Thank you for asking, sir.
Oh that’s right, you highjacked this thread with your completely off topic posts and rants about law enforcement. Never mind the OP and the title of the thread.
After all, why start your own thread when you can hijack an existing thread? For anyone that has eyes to see and has an understanding as to how WYZE operates, it is clear why this was allowed to happen.

Wow, you are so smart, you saw right through my scheme. After all starting a new thread is so costly “in this day and age”, it was crafty to just heist my own, eh?
Its not what you did per se; it’s how the moderators handled it that I find troublesome. Simply par for the WYZE course. Anything that attempts to hold them to account is ignored or swept under the rug.
Enjoy your thread and rants about law enforcement in the greatest country the world has ever known. I pray that they are there for you when you need them.
[Mod Edit] That’s rich you saying i hi-jacked this post. [Mod Edit] You wanted to inject your [Mod Edit] opinion on law enforcement yet can’t handle it when you get called on your [Mod Edit] non factual statements. You are the type to demonize the whole institution, just because that’s the “in” thing to do. [Mod Edit] the world is not white or black, many shades of grey in it.

Good evening alcruzer. Yes, the thread was hijacked, which is why it was moved from the cameras section to the watercooler section. In order to accomplish that, the moderators had to highly modify and edit several posts. IMO, those posts should have all been deleted and the thread left in the Cameras section of the forum. Please enlighten me by showing where anyone said you highjacked this thread. ![]()
People have taken this thread in a completely different direction than the OP and topic intended. This thread has been turned into a place to share opinions/rants on law enforcement. I’m not going back through this thread to read what you have posted, as I could honestly care less what your or anyone’s opinion pertaining to law enforcement is. (This forum is not a political forum. There are times and places for those discussion and the WYZE forum IS NOT one of those places.) As mentioned to another forum member, I pray law enforcement is there for you when you do need them.
Furthermore, I suspect you may have me confused with someone else. Again, please show me a single post where I have said anything about law enforcement one way or the other. Almost all of my posts are on topic and pertain to the OP. Up until the post you replied to, which was a reply to someone else and not directed at you in any way.
