Wyze Switch and Google Nest Mini

I installed two WLPS1. When I asked Wyze support they asked for a picture. Shouldn’t a support person who works for Wyze know about their products?
This is a Wall Switch!
It’s been working great manually and with the App since I got it, over a year ago.
Now my son gave me a Google Nest Mini. We can’t seem to get the Nest Mini to recognize the switches. Google Home see’s the devices and I can turn the devices on and off.
Q1) how do I get the Nest to recognize the switches? It keeps saying device not setup.
Q2) Can I use Google home to setup a schedule like I did with the Wyze App?
After this I will have more questions
Thank you, Howard

Welcome to the Forum, @hlsendyk!

One might think so, eh?

I’ll get to your other (actual) questions, but I want to ask some follow-up questions along the way:

  1. When you say this, do you mean that you see both your Wyze Switch and your Google Nest Mini in the Google Home app? (It seems like you’ve already linked your Wyze account to Google Home, but I don’t want to make an assumption about that if I can avoid it.)
  2. If the answer to #1 is “yes”, then are you able to turn the Switch on and off using the Google Home app or were you using only the Wyze app to do this?
  3. If the Nest Mini is a new device to you, then does that mean you’re new to using voice commands to Google Assistant in order to interact with Google Home? In other words, is Google Home new to you?
  1. If you can see both your Nest smart speaker and your Wyze Switch in Google Home, then that’s the main thing we need to accomplish. I’m not sure if you’re there yet. What, specifically, is giving you the “device not setup” message?
  2. If you can’t yet see both devices in the Google Home app, then we’ll need to link your Wyze account to Google Home. (You may have already done this, but I’m not sure.)
  3. Once #2 is done, then you also have to add both devices to Google Home. If you haven’t created a “home” within the Google Home app and added both of those devices, including assigning them to “rooms” (and “room” doesn’t even have to be an actual physical room in your house), then Google Home won’t see them or recognize that they’ve been set up. I think this might be where your problem is.

Yes! You can do that through the Automations tab at the bottom of the Google Home app. I think it’s just as easy as with the Wyze app, and since I’m using different “smart” devices from different manufacturers, I personally prefer to do as much of my automation within Google Home as I can.

Ask away! Let’s see if we can get these two things working together first, though.

At the moment I have 4 smart devices each with it’s own APP.
1)Wyze Switch, qty-2 turn on dinning room light and kitchen light/fan
2)Kitchen appliance plugged into a smart plug made by TP-Link and the App is Kasa
3)Emerson smart thermostat, APP is Sensi
4)Bedroom Lamp with a Smart Socket, App is HubSpace
I have Google Home and it can control each device. But if I can get the Nest mini to recognize the devices then I can walk in and verbally say “Hey google turn on kitchen light”. Does this info help?
Thanks, Howard

Kind of. I’m still trying to figure out how far you’ve gotten into the process of integrating everything within the Google Home app, so I may have to re-ask some previous questions.

Does that mean that you’re already controlling each of the individual devices from the Google Home app? In other words, have you already linked your Wyze, Kasa, Emerson/Sensi, and HubSpace accounts to your Google account in the Google Home app via :gear: Settings ➜ :link: Works with Google?

I’m guessing that you have, but I don’t yet know if you’ve assigned the devices to a “home” and “rooms” within the Google Home app. Have you done all of that?

I also still don’t know where you’re getting the error message you described in your initial post, so I’ll ask again: What, specifically, is giving you the “device not setup” message? Is Google Assistant telling you this when you talk to the Nest Mini, or are you seeing it as a message in a phone/tablet app, or is it coming from somewhere else?

If you can answer all of those questions, then that could help me (and whoever else reads this topic) narrow down where the problem is and try to help you solve it.

I have been able to use Google Home App to turn devices On and Off.
However when I try to use Google Nest Mini, and Say “Hey Google turn on Kitchen light”. The Google Nest Mini responds “That device has not been setup”. So I guess my issue is not the devices, but how to setup Google Nest Mini so it will work with Goggle Home which does see all my smart devices. Any direction as to where to look next?
Thank you
Howard

I wondered if I’d hear from you again or if you’d managed to solve your problem. I’m sorry to learn it’s not the latter.

From what you’ve written so far (unless I missed it or misunderstood), I can’t tell if you’ve actually completed setup for the Google Nest Mini itself, so I’ll ask some more questions:

  • Does your smart speaker show up in your list of devices in your “home” that you created in the Google Home app?
  • For all of your linked devices in the Google Home app, have you assigned each device to a “room” in your “home”?
  • If your smart speaker and devices are all showing up appropriately on the Devices tab (second from the bottom-left) in the Google Home app, then what happens if you ask Google Assistant to sync your devices? “Hey, Google, sync my devices.”
