Obviously I can’t be alerted with notifications when I’m out, so would I receive text messages instead?
(I don’t have Home Monitoring because it’s not available in Canada, but just curious in case it ever does come)
Home Monitoring uses Push notifications, not SMS, not Email. If you aren’t at home the only way you would get any alerts is if your phone is connected to some open wifi near you.
An Internet capable cellular data connection should work.
Post title says no data plan…

Well if your home on your wifi it should work,I never herd of a smartphone with no data plan
