I believe it has something to do with the way the raw files are being saved to the SD Card. Rather than being saved as one video file, the SD recordings are saved as individual 1 minute MP4 files saved in numbered hour and day folders.
Not only does the player have to play the video smoothly, but it has to open and stitch together two adjacent files simultaneously. The Video Processing software embedded within the app may not be robust enough to accomplish the functions you seek since it is only an small extension module of the App software and not a full on video editing suite.
At any rate, it is a new feature request. These are handled thru a new topic post in the Wishlist. Go to the Wishlist, search the topics for one that matches your request. If you find one, vote for it at the top, like 
some posts, and add your reply post to support the request. If you do not find a match, submit a new topic for approval.
When you search, you will find that this feature has previously been requested in Fast Forward/Rewind (and other scrubbing alternatives) In SD Card Playback.
