I notice a lot of wyze products nowadays caters to home owners

It’s almost like all of the ideas are coming from people who own homes. I think the most ridiculous product wyze has ever released tho is the gun locker. Even that new one (or i think it’s pretty new) with the cam being able to attach onto the light fixture.

I also think wyze really needs to release line of products that work without any need for wifi or internet similar to Lorex. A peephole cam that doesn’t require removing the peephole would be nice but I know it’ll never happen because check my older post.

There’s so much opportunity for wyze, specifically with renters in apartments and condos, and for both renters and ppl living in homes they own.

I have been a proponent for the peephole cam for years. I live in a house, but like the stealthiness.

My Duo cam’s mounting bracket is actually attached to the door’s peephole. The peephole is still functional in case I need it. No drilling required.

I don’t really use the Duo as a doorbell; I don’t answer the door unless I expect the visitor, unless it’s a neighbor. The only exception was when a policeman pressed it. They were investigating a drug house nearby that I wasn’t aware of.

I know people want the peephole cam to be inconspicuous, but this works for me.

And there’s the added benefit that its WiFi chime alerts me when someone approaches but doesn’t press the button.

I think that’s their target market. Not a lot of companies are going for this sort of cam.

The gun locker definitely seems weird, but the bulb cam makes sense to me.

I think they have a vacuum and some other weird stuff too.

Likewise. Doorbell broke 10 years ago and haven’t had the desire to replace it. I have three cams covering the front door. If they want me that bad, they can bang harder on the door.

Especially for anyone carrying a clipboard

Or with a lanyard/ID around their neck.

I may need to re-think the way I often carry keys (via lanyard; no badge). During 2 of my last 3 trips to Menards, I’ve been stopped by people asking me questions as if I worked there. (To be fair, the second guy gave me a curious look and said, “You don’t work here, do you?”)

Or maybe I need a badge that says “I don’t work here”…that people would just ignore and ask me questions anyway. (Okay, scratch that idea.)

Back on topic, though, I totally agree that Wyze should address the broader customer base with their products, especially considering the state of housing (and housing availability) in the U.S. these days. If I lived in an apartment (or if my home’s current door was already drilled for one), I’d absolutely want a peephole camera, and I’ve voted (and commented) for that in the Wishlist and elsewhere in the Forum.

Pretty much every time I’m in Home Depot I get “I know you don’t work here but do you know” so it doesn’t matter what you wear  It is impossible to get help there and I guess when they see you with a cart full of stuff they figure you’re a contractor or something.

I actually usually help them out, I’m typically in no rush. But I’m careful to preface things with a disclaimer like “I am NOT a licensed electrician, but here is how you do it…”. Although when a line begins to form sometimes I have to say sorry - I need to get home and actually use this stuff I’m buying.

Actually the last time I was there a guy/customer was walking down the aisle in an orange shirt and I stopped myself just short of asking him something.

So, nekkid trips to the home improvement store? Got it. Gonna start callin’ it “Menudes”.

Once I was there and saw a guy in a hoodie with a big QR code on the front and back. I said, “I’m curious to scan that to see what it says.” With a big ol’ grin on his face he said, “Oh, it says, ‘[a two-word expression implying that I should have intimate relations with myself].’” I wonder if anyone asked him if he worked there.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Home Depot. Menards is much closer to the house, and I’ve never had trouble getting assistance there.

Both times I had no cart. This last time I was standing in front of the wall plate section because I needed combo plates for some smart switches I was relocating. I had a plate in one hand and my phone in the other and was making sure I’d picked up the right thing. That’s when the guy asked.

The time before that, I was walking through the outdoor section and this dude had a typical garden hose in one hand (maybe in combination with a sprayer handle) and a shorter hose in the other with female connections on both ends of that one plus a male/male coupler, and he had questions about connecting things and what he needed for his yard, which he asked in heavily-accented English. I was wearing a blue shirt (they wear blue vests there) and had work gloves that I’d brought from home, because I was expecting to load up some flagstones, and I was walking with a sense of purpose when he stopped me, so I guess I can’t blame him for asking, and I tried to answer his questions as best I understood them.

Tomorrow I’m gonna throw on a blue polo shirt and hang out at Best Buy just to see what happens. (No, I’m not.)

…steering back…

Even though I like doing home improvement stuff, there are sometimes things I miss about apartments I’ve lived in, and I definitely think Wyze could do better outreach to those customers.

HD is 5 mins from me and right off the highway, when you’re in the middle of a project and missing something, it is a lifesaver. Luckily I have the store memorized and the only time I need an employee is if I need a forklift. I’ve even rolled the orange ladders over or stood on the 5 gallon buckets to get stuff out of the overhead. I don’t have time to walk around and try to find someone. Haven’t quite had the nuts to do a forklift myself (the code is just the 4 digit store number).

Now in my area they do free next day delivery (same day if you get the order done in time) on anything that is in stock at a nearby store. They use this new UPS service that is basically Uber (probably the same drivers as uber/isnstacart/lyft/etc). I bought a $4 paint sample once and it was here in 2 hours.

Funny thing is it comes from a store that’s much further away than my local one.

I saw a video (wimp. com?) where they pranked a Best Buy store. They assembled a mob to enter the store, all wearing blue shirts, outfits similar to the uniforms they wear. It was hilarious.

100 people trying to sell me a ridiculously overpriced HDMI cable sounds like a nightmare.

I’m confused, you are frustrated they don’t produce things for renters, but then also call the light fixture powering cam feature ridiculous? That’s literally designed for renters (though I have it for my house, cause I didn’t wanna be messing with electrical wiring in the garage.)
