Robot Vacuum dips off contacts while charging and shuts down

To dock reliably I find a thin but firm piece of plastic works on carpet. Or just place the base on non-carpet.

Now the only problem with this bracket is a one-time installation and doesn’t allow you to relocate the charging base easily! Whereas, mine does it as Set it, and forget it! LOL
Thanks, @stargazeriinh

Bringing back an old thread. My vac has been doing the disconnect thing. Seems like it wants to bump itself off the charger. I can push it back with my foot and it will start charging again. I have the Wyze base that recently came out and it sits flat on a hardwood floor. I have a second vac upstairs with the same setup but on carpet and it works fine. Any suggestions?

Does it still do it without the pad? Otherwise, some maintenance may help…

  • Check the opening on the front of the robot is clean, and the space between the contacts on the base. Those are the parts that help guide the robot onto the dock.
  • Cleaning the charging contacts with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Blow-out the lidar tower
  • Restarting the robot.

It does it without the pad, and I’ve tried all your suggestions. It will start to charge then when it feels like it the wheels start to move and bump the unit just enough to break the connection. If the charger comes back in stock I will see if a new one fixes it.

Probably not the charger since you say it will charge fine when placed manually.

How quickly after docking does it break the connection?

  • Try cleaning the wheel assemblies. Maybe some debris is causing unwanted friction and causing it to dock too high and then it relaxes, breaking the connection. (Also check the front roller moves freely)
  • If it still seems to be a software issue, try factory reset. (Be sure to re-add it using the same name BEFORE removing the older (duplicate) entry. It will keep the maps that way.)

A video or photo like the below might help.

I can place it manually and it will do the same thing. I’ll check the wheels but so far I haven’t noticed them sticking. I tried a full reset and deleting and reinstalling, no change. Thanks for the note about keeping the map. Good to know. Sometimes it will do it right after it docks, other times it waits a while. I’ll think it’s charging good then an hour later I see that it’s in standby and not charging. Unfortunately there’s no alert for that.

Oh, I thought it was fine when placed manually. Can you check the voltage on the charging contacts?

Have a spare security/Wyze cam to record it happening?

It should eventually alert (doesn’t take long on mine) that it is going to sleep because of no power.

I’ll see if I can get a recording. No alert because it doesn’t run down. Just goes into standby and stops charging.

Hi all! I have commented on this before. Here are the steps to understand how and why it’s going off track.

  1. Secure the docking station securely to the floor. and I mean to the floor with screws or duck tape if not on the carpet do not depend on velcro!
Once you have achieved this, allow your vacuum to dock itself and then get down to view with your eyes how much you will need spacers to adjust your docking station up for contacts to be in the center of contacts.
NOTE 1 : (A) It is normal for your robot vac to pulse back from time to time to make sure it’s meeting the contacts. However, If the dock moves it will go off its contacts as you described your unit is doing.
(B). How to prevent the docker from tipping backward. Cut a piece and attach, Styrofoam from your wall to to your docker stand and secure once you are happy with the results.
NOTE 2: (A) I the docking unit voltage is not present on the contacts the unit will continue to try and dock till it shuts down.
    best of luck Capt Rob

Thanks. I’m using the Wyze base for the unit. It keeps it secure. Dock doesn’t appear to move. I’ll check the voltage.

Update! Replaced the charger, vac is working normally. Something in the old charger was acting up just enough to bump it off.
