Hey guys i have been battleing this for over 3 weeks. (only with my v3 cams after new fw update) I have had constant issues in both my garage and my basement with my 2 v3 cams where they will go into a connect loop and the app will show a pulled light to dark strobed video feed.
I’ve narrowed it down to 1 of 3 things. Something was changed in the new firmware that caused it on both. Multiple resets and service resets , Moving the camera around to different parts of the house, trying different adapters Changing my wifi sid names and separating 2.4 from 5 with different names. Changing Channels, Narrowing the 2.4 channel frequency to 20 has done NOTHING. (I am an i.t. guy for my entire city so i’m good with this stuff and also apple certified and Microsoft / intel gold partnered. Used to install satellites as well --so i’ve done my troubleshooting on this)
My environment is as follows:
Heavily Saturated Neighborhood with over 32 wifi sids in the area, many smart devices in neighboring homes fridges etc. I run a 5g and a 2.4g sid on my linksys e1200 routor. My 2.4 sid is set to higher channel as that works best. its a bandwidth of 20 (not auto) and its mixed to handle n, b, and ,a as i have some very old vintage computing that still needs b. I am on wpa2-enterprise tkip as aes does not work on my vintage collectable tech.
After the rollup to Firmware demo_wcv3_4.36.13.0416. i noticed my camera became highly sensitive to red led’s and blinking leds in my basement and garage, where as the new fw led and infared sensors would get tripped and start pulsing. randomly. Even with the entire infared or dark modes off. it would take about 1-2 hrs after a hard reboot for this to happen. I also noticed that the signal strength and packet data throughput in the app showing how much data is moving to the camera dropped substantially and the camera(s) both would go into an unstable wifi state and constantly dissconnect with lower bandwith. Then the cameras would chime like a doorbell all day or night wearing out the relay inside them constantly clicking chiming and saying “ready to connect” until rebooted. VERY ANNOYING! I did everything I moved the cams around moved them away from any power bricks to other devices or cabling. moved them away from my speakers and even tinfoiled above the tile in my basement to block interference from neighboring networks. NO GO!
WYZE has done something in this new firmware that has bugged both the network security authentication / encryption losing support for a mixed a/b/n 2.4ghz sid and increased major latency. The new firmware has also bugged the v3 camera and made the dark mode leeds and infared sensors very buggy and overly sensitive to anything lit up or pulsing something as simple as a cell phone led light or computer led light (my servers) sets it off and throws the cam into this pulsed strobing stream connect reboot loop. My network is a FULL 9-13db 3 antenna with 5 full bars past my garage and the routor is in the basement. Its a good router. (my vr even gets full bars on 5g in my back yard - its that good) my 4 v2 cams are perfect not a hiccup around the house)
***If your experiencing the same issue on the v3 cams, and your environment is similar in a saturated neighborhood. THE FIX FOR ME was to flash the prev firmware on which sped up my connection and fixed all the infrared night modes incredible almost instantly for BOTH my v3 cams not even 2 months old.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-FIX
I went to Wyze’s site and downloaded the current and prev v2 and v3 firmware’s just to store in case Wyze continues to roll up this buggy firmware again. IT SHOULD BE PULLED or reverted back on some features. I rolled back to 4.36.11.8391. this solved all my problems and my cameras are stable and rock solid!!
DISCLAIMER: I read a lot of issues with folks bricking the cam after a firmware update manually. I didn’t have a problem BUT… one thing i noticed when i flashed: The camera takes the full 3-4 min, the lights will pullse blue fast then red then nothing then pause on red etc. this happens about 2-3 times. So if your going to flash. ENSURE A GOOD POWERSOURCE FIRST, and WAIT THE FULL 4 MIN BEFORE UNPLUGGING RESETTING OR RECONNECTING. --even if the camera appears to be ready. This will ensure you do not brick it.
Flashing is simple. Download the firmware unzip and place the bin file on a fat32 formatted sd card no larger then 32g in root folder. with cam unplugged insert micro sd. HOLD POWER. Plug in cam with power held down for 5 seconds, light will turn purple. (release button) WAIT FULL 4 MIN. (lights will dance and change colors a few times. eventuially light will be red. and blue light should come on. When you move red will light up. DONE. I didnt even need to read the cam to my app. it worked perfect out of box.
