Wyzecam Notification Lag?

I have been working with wyze support for this problem since September 2018 Nothing I have done or they have done has solved this problem so far

Just wanted to say, after I commented on how to maybe tweak the phone a little, that I still have the problems. I was thinking maybe it has to do with my phone not receiving the updates, buy more that I see here that even Galaxy S9 is having the same issue I know it isnā€™t my phone.

I do also have that issue about lag, especially if the phone is locked. Iā€™ve even noticed it without being locked. Sometimes Iā€™ll even get two or 3 notifications back to back. Iā€™ve even had some rare notifications a minute apart from each other, meaning no 5 minute burn time. I know because if the time it said it recorded

I had my sister share her Ring feed with me. Thereā€™s rarely any motion at her house, but as soon as someone approaches her door, I would receive the notification instataneously (including Ring app waking the screen). Thatā€™s even after my phone hasnā€™t been in use for a couple of hours. Never even touched the battery optimization settings.Using a Galaxy S8. Itā€™s definitely isnā€™t the phone.

I donā€™t own an Ring, but Iā€™m impressed with the appā€™s instant notifications. Please fix the Wyze app.

It didnā€™t used to be like this for Wyze. It used to be instantaneously like what you describe. Donā€™t know if itā€™s because they are overloaded with people. Who knows. Maybe because server is in China and the might be political issues?

Does anyone notice when you donā€™t put a passcode, the lag isnā€™t that bad? Anyone here with iphone and put their passcode have issues because of this?

When did the lag start being this bad? Wyze need to recreate the app and make it act like an instant messaging app (where it ignores the battery optimization settings).

There is a hacky workaround using adb command to disable doze. Takes a tiny hit on your battery life. Thatā€™s the only solution so far.

It started some months ago.
What is this work around you speak of? How does it work?
Also, Iā€™m not sure battery optimization will help. I only digested that as an idea thinking it could help but it doesnā€™t.
Any other app with push notification appears not to have the last that Wyze has so I donā€™t think it is the phone.

Iā€™m saying as soon as I disabled doze, Wyze notifications would come in right way. Instant messaging apps completely ignore doze.

More info about Doze here

Install Minimal adb on your PC.

Then type this in command prompt
adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable

More info here

I might be missing some steps. Short version of it is that disabling doze allows any and every notification to come instantly ( slightly affecting battery life)

Iā€™ve already had taken off battery optimization for Wyze when I wrote my first comment about it. Seemed like it help but it didnā€™t. Didnā€™t have the issue in the beginning when I first got Wyze.

I will have to look at the other part you mention and see if I really want to do that it not.

What I keep thinking about is this, I receive notifications For everything else Instantly, including my other brand cameras .
Wyze cams are the only thing I have A problem with notifications on.

It might have to do with China. The notification first goes there and then your phone.

You have to use the adb commands. Turning off battery optimization in the settings doesnā€™t do a single thing. Read up on installing adb, then put this in command prompt adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable

Might have some battery drain. If you reboot your device, youā€™ll have to reenter the command

I believe itā€™s the app. Iā€™m not sure how they coded it to receive the push but itā€™s not working instantly if the app is not ā€˜activeā€™. Maybe itā€™s a timer polling for the notification when the app is not active, or maybe itā€™s just a permission they need to include, but they need to change this so it works more like instant messaging apps that are ready for any push events that come to the phone.

If the phone is unlocked and app is open - Instant notification every time (-12 sec it takes to record)
If the phone is unlocked and app was open recently - Almost instant
If the phone is locked and app hasnā€™t been activated for a while - 4 to 7 min delay.

Samsung S9 (Android 9)
Selected battery optimization off for specific apps, included Wyze app in the list also. No difference.

This is also happening on my Samsung S8+ (Android 9) as youā€™ve indicated.

HDRock, I will submit a ticket. Iā€™m trying what Drift suggested also, Iā€™ve disabled deviceidle and will report back in a day or two if that works for me. If it does work, itā€™ll only work until the device is restarted and youā€™d have to use ADB to disable idle mode again like he said. Also if this works, there must be some function or permission that other instant messaging apps use in their code, or the apps install manifest, to exclude themselves from entering Androidā€™s idle/doze mode.

I disabled deviceidle also, notifications are instant now even with the app backgrounded, phone locked and off for a half hour. I sent in a support ticket as HDRock suggested also letting them know what Iā€™ve done to get instant push notifications. Not crazy about having to do it this way but itā€™s the only thing thatā€™s worked so far.

Thatā€™s cool that you got it to work right , Iā€™m not crazy about doing it either , Itā€™s just a work around not a solution

I submitted a ticket as well for the identical issue. Perhaps if we can muster the troops Wyze will get an ear-full of it and priority elevate a solution.

I encourage all Android clients to follow suit in submitting a support ticket for this issue.

I wanted to try the solution @Drift gave but scared of doing the ADB part so I just disabled the Battery Optimization for the Wyze app only. Been receiving real-time notifications ever since.

Open the Settings app on your phone.
Tap Battery.
Tap the menu button and choose ā€œBattery optimization.ā€
Tap the dropdown menu at the top of the screen and select ā€œAll apps.ā€
Tap the Wyze app, then select ā€œDonā€™t optimize.ā€

Settings for battery optimizations seems to vary per manufacturer since they tweak the Android OS to their liking. This is from my ASUS, which I think is under the Android One implementation. My friendā€™s P30 got this under Special Access in Apps. Another (Oppo I think) just searched ā€˜Dozeā€™ in Settings.
