Wyze v4 unable to view recorded clips on android

Anyone know why i can view the recordings through the wyze app but when they go to my gallery they are unplayable? Ive tried to send them to other devices and get the same result. Seems kind of useless and a complete hassle if anyone ever needs the footage from the camera.

Regular v4 or Panv4?

The Panv4 uses the HEVC codec, your android should include it but perhaps it got corrupted somehow. Not sure if you’re able to uninstall and reinstall your gallery app or not.

Also confirm which phone manufacturer(s)? I know Google and Samsung both support it but some of the cheaper ones may not include it by default (it costs money).

Welcome @Cld

Couple of questions:

  • What Device are you using?
  • What is the App version you are using?
  • What is the Firmware version of your Camera?
  • How are you getting the video’s to your device? Are you viewing the event and then selecting the download or are you using the Share option?

I tested using the download on my Samsung S25+ and my Pixel 9 pro and both were viewable via the Gallery on the Samsung and Photos on Pixel.

Regular one ive tried just about everything. I did get it to work by setting the camera to 360p then it saves clips to gallery and lets me view them but only when im on the live cam screen, when i record past events from sd card its unable to be viewed.

Latest firmware

Latest update

Samsung galaxy el cheapo latest android version

I have a 256gb sd card in it and no subscription. Im hitting the record button while viewing the events or live screen.

Strange, I have a regular v4 and can view recorded clips on both my phones and my PC, and have sent them to others, uploaded to google photos, put on facebook, etc. All without issues.

The fact that it works at 360 makes me think you are having a wifi connection issue, it isn’t getting a clean enough signal to push the higher bandwidth without corruption.

I may have misunderstood, you said you can view recordings in the wyze app so I figured you meant the gallery built into the wyze app, but do you just mean playback from the SD card?

Another possibility, when you “record” it uses your phone’s software to encode the video stream locally to your phone, so there could be some encoder problem with your phone (not able to compress the higher res properly). One thing you could try in that case is going into the camera settings → advanced settings and turning off “hardware decoder”. But I’d suspect wifi more than an encoder/decoder problem.

I can view them in the album of the wyze app but when i hit record button and it saves to my phones gallery it wont let me open it. I cant send it anywhere else. Messages youtube or anywhere

After you hit record, the video will be in the gallery in the wyze app, as well as in your phone’s gallery app. If neither one is any good, I’d highly suspect you’ve got a bandwidth problem on your wifi - camera not getting a good enough signal to stream the video to your phone without errors (you might not notice a little glitch while watching, but it is enough to corrupt the file).

But if you have another device you can test with, I would try that to rule out a possible encoder/decoder issue on your phone. Also try disabling the hardware decoder I mentioned before.

Im gonna try another phone to rule that out as a possibility. Im not sure about the wifi its got a strong signal with a fast connection but i guess ya never know. As of right now though everything else works great but it doesn’t do me much good if i ever need to share it.

Thanks for the help.

To avoid confusion, I suggest you mention the actual versions.

I have a Samsung phone, and I can’t replicate this issue.

Well i guess it lets me upload the recordings to youtube from the wyze app. Good enough for me. Must be problem with my phone player or gallery.

Yeah the upload (share) to Youtube is a bit different (the wyze app does its own encoding in order to add the “captured on wyze” to the end), so it does sound like your phone may be the issue. Unfortunately I’ve never figured out a way to reinstall video encoders on android, it seems some apps have their own built in, and others use a system one. One time I was able to uninstall the gallery app and reinstall it for someone and that worked, other times it would not let me uninstall it (different flavor of android).

You could try playing the video from your files app, that should theoretically use the system decoder but not positive. Also could try installing VLC media player (handy to have regardless) and see if that works, as it brings its own decoders.

Out of curiosity though, give it a shot disabling the hardware decoder in the cam advanced properties.

No bueno on the file manager own video player it says codec not supported or something. Decoder off also makes no difference.

Guess if i ever need it for evidence ill just upload it to yt or record it off another phone playing through the wyze app? Kinda weird though lol

Seems like some other users of cheaper Samsung phones have issues too, not just with Wyze.

Can you tell us the exact model of your Galaxy phone and Android version? Some of us would like to attempt to reproduce your issue so we can help others with the same.

Model:
Go to Android Settings > About Phone > Product Name
For example: Galaxy A35 5G

Android version:
Go to Android Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Android version
For example: 16

If one of us is able to reproduce your issue, we can find the cause (details behind the issue) and possibly find a solution.

Also, please make sure your phone’s system software is up to date:
Go to Android Settings > Software update > Download and install
