Wyze thermostat not acting completely normal after reset

My Wyze app was earlier this week affected by the Android 17 QPR1 bug that caused the thermostat to show up as “Device Offline” in the Wyze app. That issue has since been resolved with the Wyze app hotfix that was issued a couple of days ago, much appreciated for that, Wyze!

Before realizing what the issue was and that it was a bug and not my thermostat, I tried various things to get to start working in the app again, including holding down the dial to factory reset the thermostat. I’ve realized since it’s all working again, the thermostat display screen no longer displays the correct count down time until the desired temperature is reached, instead it displays 1 minute for each degree it’s cooling by. For example if set to cool down to 74 degrees and current ambient temp is 78 degrees, it’ll say 4 minutes until temp is reached and A/C turns off. I noticed this when it sat a 1 minute for about 10-15 minutes yesterday…

Also since resetting the thermostat and also deleting it from the app, it has you run through the system test sequence as if it were all brand new. Makes sense to do that, but the sequence only lasted 10 seconds per phase and I know that is not supposed to be the case. What gives, should I try resetting it again (without deleting from the app this time) as the issues seem to be with the physical device itself. I’ve never had a single issue with the thermostat ever in the 6 years of ownership, I’ve had it ever since it’s initial pre-order release back in 2020 and it’s running on the latest firmware.

Just wish Wyze had been more cognitive about the Android 17 QPR1 bug to mitigate it before the stable public release hit the masses last week as there was plenty of time when the bug was present in the multiple beta releases so none of this would have even happened, not just to me but many others it’s affected.

So far I’ve logged out of the app and then cleared the app cache, and force closed the app. Pulled the thermostat from the wall and forgot about it for about 30 minutes. Snapped it back on and logged back into the app. System test sequence ran how it normally should, but the time to target temp countdown is still stuck at 2 minutes when 4 degrees off the mark, a time that normally takes 45 - to 60 minutes. I will try resetting it again, but a little skeptical at this point.

firstly, I didn’t realize there was an Android bug until I read this post. I also just tried resetting the thermostat, except now it won’t pair…

I don’t see any updates in the app store, so I’m not sure what’s going on…

I would try deleting the app and then reinstalling. If you still can’t pair from your phone, you’ll need to use either another phone or tablet to initially re-pair. That’s what I initially had to do.

The day the hot fix came out, the Play Store showed a Wyze App update available. I’ve since reset the thermostat (over this past weekend) and was easily able to re-pair the thermostat on my Pixel 8 Pro phone when it wasn’t able to just before the hot fix was released, in fact it seemed to pair far quicker than it did with my tablet.

Unfortunately the countdown timer still isn’t working as it should be it was before all of this happened. I can’t imagine it takes this long or longer for the thermostat to relearn things to be able to display the countdown correctly.

Thanks for the tip! I tried deleting (restarting) and reinstalling, but no dice. However, I then joined the Beta group and was able to pair! So I guess I’ll stay in beta for now

Thermostat is still exhibiting this behavior of inaccurate or incorrect countdown to target temp. Still displaying +1 minute for each degree to whether temp.
