I have an Ecobee thermostat upstairs (separate system but identical wiring that I replaced the same trane thermostat that is downstairs). The wiring is below and it works perfectly.
Do you have a heat pump? Orange wire is typically for a heat pump. When you swapped the orange wire, did you reset the thermostat and start over telling the app you have a wire on O?
I live in FL in a newer home (5 yrs old). I have two Lennox Merit Series 2 ton, 1 stage heat pumps outside my house. One for upstairs, the other for downstairs.
I have reset the thermostat multiple times in the app. It still does not work.
Ok time for some investigating if you’re up for it.
Do you have a multimeter and two pairs of alligator clips? If so, take the wyze thermostats off and measure continuity between a few terminals.
I don’t have a Wyze thermostat but I know how thermostats should be working.
Tools:
1 Multimeter
2 alligator clips
The thermostat and your phone
Patience and caution.
Steps:
Clip Rc and C from the wall to your thermostat to power it up and leave everything else disconnected.
Verify that you can see your thermostat in your app as connected. Try not to physically move the device and don’t try to read the screen.
3.Using the app, turn on your AC by lowering the temperature. If your thermostat is working properly, you should hear a relay click.
Measure continuity between Y1 and Rc.
Measure continuity between Rc and G
If everything is working well, you should get continuity between the terminals listed above. If not, submit a bug report to wyze letting them know on as much detail as you can what isn’t working (no continuity between Rc and Y1 when in AC mode) and request a warranty replacement.
Hopefully this helps you or someone else experiencing similar problems.
