Wyze supplied USB power adapter failed host and damaged the camera (photo)

Wyze Cam V2 started making loud static noise from speaker. Detected the smell of something burnt inside the camera. Opened it up to find the ribbon cable connecting the USB power to the main board melted.

Scarring can be seen on the surfaces where the cable was folded between the parts.

Damage is probably not limited to the ribbon cable only with this level of melt.

Camera was plugged in indoors environment only.

Seems the USB adapter failed in some over voltage and/or current situation and killed the camera.

Could have been some internal short too. Given the age of the cam I guess it isn’t terribly surprising that something failed. Can use it as an excuse to get a newer, better cam. Even the OG should be a significant improvement, but I prefer the v4. But if you have Cam Plus Lite and want to keep that, the v3 is still available at multiple places and that’s the last cam suppored by Lite.
