Yeah, me too! I really like that Wyze home monitoring Works in home assistant. This has actually made it possible for me to create a bunch of other automations that are tied to the status of the HMS And even be able to control the HMS. I love that. I wish more stuff was in there. I’m definitely going to keep hounding wise to develop their own official integration
but I don’t think they will consider that in any way until sometime after the matter. Camera libraries are launched sometime this fall. Then they will have some kind of meeting to decide how to move forward now that they have more information on all of that. I have some mild hope that we could convince them to consider some amount of home assistant integration within two or 3 years after the matter camera libraries launch. Obviously it could happen sooner, but I think there’s a reasonable possibility within 2 to 3 years. The HACS version works reasonably well enough for now.
That’s a good point, and that is something I’m likely to have. For me the key is an easier and simpler solution, though, and I think the flexibility with this product is one of its highlights. As unlikely as it is, it’s possible that someone could arrive home with both the lock’s and the phone’s power drained, so the mechanical key is like a simple backup to the backup and probably appeals to the belt-and-suspenders crowd. ![]()
Also, the mention of using the phone as a charger makes me wonder if Wyze or anyone else would ever create a Qi-certified lock (probably not, but I’m just imagining). Then someone with a Pixel (for example) could use something like Battery Share to wirelessly jump-start the lock, maybe?
I agree, and since the cylinder uses a Schlage SC1 keyway, someone could potentially go the other way and swap out the cylinder in, say, a Kwikset doorknob lock with a SmartKey SC1 Keyway and then self-re-key that lock to match the Wyze Palm Lock’s cylinder…. ![]()
That and Auto-Lock are probably my favorite features. I have fewer things to think about when entering and leaving now.
For years, I did any automations through Alexa routines, but it’s so weak. I still keep Alexa, but I do everything now via HA. It’s so much more powerful. I’m just a novice and feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of what it can do. I was curious and just checked my home Assistant and I currently have 110 devices and 761 entities. They add up fast!
388 devices & 2164 entities for me
But I haven’t even set up everything that I plan to use. I have a big box full of a bunch of other stuff that I still need to set up. That number is going to grow fast.
What is HA and how can I get started checking it out?
Thanks in advance!
HA stand for Home Assistant, free and open source home automation.
As Habib mentioned, HA is short for Home Assistant. It can be as simple or advanced as you want. Aside from the basic turn things on and off, automations and scripts can get super in depth if you want them to. It’s really powerful in that if you can think of it, there’s probably a way to make it happen.
Here’s a link. it’s free and open source and can be run on many types of devices
Yep. I do a lot of automations that are way more advanced than I’m able to figure out by myself. I either download somebody else’s blueprint to do a lot of things for me, or I copy the entity name and other information into an AI and tell it to help me write a home assistant script to make it do such and such a thing that I want it to do. Then the AI helps write out the script for me to do advanced things that I don’t even know how to do.
It’s been awesome!
Home assistant is infinitely better and more powerful than pretty much all of the smart home competition combined. Nobody realistically comes close IMO, if you were to rank The top 7 finally compatible smart home platforms based on Automation power ,local compatibility, privacy, And brand compatibility, they would definitely rank in the following order overall:
- Home Assistant (It’s not even a contest. They are number one by a huge margin on all of the above)
- Samsung SmartThings - personally, I don’t believe that they deserve the number two spot because they are cloud dependent among other things I consider limitations, but if I’m trying to be unbiased a lot of scoring would rank them as number 2 even though I would personally rank them at number 4.
- Amazon Alexa
- Google home
- Apple homekit
- Hubitat elevation
- Tuya Smart Life
There are actually a lot of other really cool, less popular systems that I would put above many of the above options if I was just making my own personal list, but, the above is a slightly less biased list that it wouldn’t be hard to convince most people with wide experience to agree on generally.
It’s actually pretty insane that there are still companies like Wyze who don’t have an official integration with home assistant yet. With home assistant yet. In my opinion, it’s an extremely negligent red flag. I think they’ll come around within the next couple of years though, now that the matter camera libraries are finally about to launch this fall. That’s the one thing we’ve really been waiting on for a while so that they can finally decide how to move forward with future integration plans. I will be pretty shocked if they haven’t started researching into a home assistant integration by the end of /2027, leading into early 2028 at the latest (and have something test worthy by the end of 2028, even if it’s not a full launch). It sure would be nice if they did more of it sometime in 2026 though. I guess it’s possible they will decide that supporting matter is sufficient instead since that would get most of their stuff into home assistant as well. That’s acceptable.
But I’m just totally speculating. I certainly plan to keep harassing them about it. ![]()
That’s a good idea and something I haven’t tried yet! Thanks.
Usually, I try to figure out what I want and then when I get stuck, I search google for similar scripts to get an idea on how to do it. Then sometimes, I just miss the obvious. A couple weeks ago I wrote a script for a slowly ramping wakeup light at a specific time, but only certain days and only if I set a switch state as a trigger. Then the light resets to normal brightness, shuts off and turns off the trigger switch so that it won’t run again unless I turn on that trigger switch at bedtime. The script worked fine when testing, but wouldn’t run when it was supposed to. It turned out I was so deep in the workings of the script, I completely forgot I needed to create a simple automation to trigger it.
I’d love to have an official Wyze integration. It would open so many possibilities! The API was somewhat helpful for a while
