Scanning the wifi code from my Galaxy never worked. I was able to copy another posts’s solution to this which is take a screenshot of the QR and display it on a laptop.
Then of course the camera does not finish connecting to wifi. I have Orbi mesh with 2.4 ghz, but no luck. I tried connecting to my phone hotspot which is 2.4 ghz, and I can see it did connect, but it always times out and goes back to saying “ready to connect”.
I flashed the firmware up to 4.36.13.0416. First issue there, you have to format the SD card with FAT32. Windows doesn’t even have that option any more. I installed Disk Genius and that worked to format the card. But then, the firmware flashing instructions are wrong. It says to rename the FOLDER “demo_wcv3.bin” and copy the folder to the root of the SD card. Nope, nothing. What does work is renaming the FILE to “demo_wcv3.bin” and copying it to the root.
But still, no wifi connect. Would it be so horrible to enable simple configuration over the USB cable?
Windows does support it but only on 32GB and less cards (which is recommended for manual firmware flashing).
After the manual flash did you do a factory reset on the cam?
Yeah, I tried every variable. Resets, wifi networks, SD card in and out.
Do you have other cams that work correctly or is this the only one you have?
In your Orbi you can try disabling WPA3 temporarily if it is enabled, leaving WPA2 only, that has helped some with the v4 (the v3 doesn’t support it, but could still be interfering). I’m assuming you’re trying this while the cam is near one of your wireless nodes and has a good signal?
Obviously triple check the password you’re putting in, especially on a phone it is very easy to typo stuff, especially if it is a complex password with upper case, numbers, etc. It sounds like an issue with the cam connecting to the wifi and not really a setting on the cam.
I used to have a v2 camera which died in a sprinkler accident. Otherwise the v3 is my only Wyze device.
My latest attempt was to enable the developer tools on the Orbi UI, which lets you disable either band. I disabled 5ghz and then confirmed that every device on the network had switched to 2.4. This did not work either. Once the QR code is scanned, the camera quickly returns to saying “ready to connect”. After maybe 2 minutes of this, the phone app says connection failed, or timed out.
Shouldn’t be any need to disable 5ghz, the cam doesn’t know anything about that band. There are rare occurrences where a router blocks certain traffic between 2.4 and 5 so having the phone on 5 can cause a problem, but I haven’t seen that happen in a long time.
Have you brought the cam in near your wifi router and tried it? You’re 100% sure the network name and password are correct? Some have reported issues having the QR code scan at all, which isn’t the case for you but the fix for them is to screen shot it and blow it up bigger, sometimes on a tablet or laptop. Since QR codes have “check bits” in them so they won’t scan if not fully readable I doubt yours is reading the wrong info, but who knows, might be worth a try.
It’s possible the wifi radio has died (fully or partially) in the camera, but since you said it did connect to your hotspot (even though authentication didn’t succeed) that seems to imply it is at least partially working and something else may be at play. You mention you have an Orbi, have you tried disabling their extra security features that could potentially be blocking access to the Wyze authentication servers?
Try a factory reset on the camera. Remove any sd card, hold the setup button for 15-25 seconds. Camera will say ready connect a couple of times and then it will reboot. (You might hear a click as it resets.) Then try adding the camera. You SHOULDN’T lose any existing settings for the camera as long as you don’t delete it. You MAY need to disable 5gHz on your router even though the camera doesn’t use it.
