Two Pileated Woodpeckers at the Feeding Tree yesterday.

Speaking of Pileated Woodpecker, when I first saw one in flight, I thought it was a Pheasant. Woodpeckers in Europe are tiny

Wow, I’ve never seen Blue Jays share like that. Around here, they chase away any other bird that attempts to eat “their” seed.

This morning I captured a Northern Cardinal sharing with a Dark Eyed Junco. Then an older Cardinal came along and was not willing to share at all.

Get the deer back ! I’m at war with birds since they ate all my little 3 inch tall lettuce plants all in one day. I plant lettuce every November in my planter boxes and have always had a good crop, not this year.

Aww man. I know the feeling! Earlier today, I found a dead finch at the bottom of my fencing with it’swings stretched out.

My local Blue Jay flock is friendly and helpful. Sometimes, a hawk or falcon will show up since the feeder and yard are a good place to find doves. Usually, a Chickadee or Red-Bellied Woodpecker will give an alarm. Then a team of Blue Jays chases away the raptor. They even have watch posts and use tactics that I have seen repeated. In the Spring, Red-Wing Blackbirds assist in the protection scheme.

Do you own a Bird Feed Factory?

For those of you that like Northern Cardinals:

A well fed male that likes to throw his weight around:

A beautiful female that feels very secure at the feeder when the male is not around:
